Those who tack letters onto their name are not doing so except for the way they believe they will be perceived by others.

And a Ph.D pretty much IS going to school longer. The whole point of going to school longer is to learn more specific details in a particular field.

BS: Learn the basics in a rounded education, complete the requirements, get a degree.
MS: Learn additional information in a particular field, complete the requirements (often involving a thesis on a particular topic), get a degree.
Ph.D: Learn even more specifics, complete the requirements (including a thesis/dissertation), get a degree.

If I had all those letters after my name on my business card like that realtor, I would slip in LMFAO and STFU just to see if anyone noticed.

Does "where from" matter? Should they put that behind their name as well? They're doing it so that I know that they have a degree at that level. If I don't care that they have the degree, I really don't care where it's from.

Frankly, I'd rather know that someone has practical skills than a degree.

Unless you're a registered real estate agent there's just not a lot of reasons to have letters after your name.
