Sand/Media blasting question.
I ran a media blasting cabinet for years, yer go. Problem is, it was operated off of an industrial compressor. We ran 90 pounds of pressure in the thing. Worked great
Now, I bought a small 40-pound capacity cabinet and I am running it off of a small 20-gallon compressor. At 100 psi, I can work for maybe a full minute before the thing kicks back on and I have to wait for the pressure to build up again. Any suggestions on what size compressor would be good, better, best? TIA |

If you have a decent motor and pump; just add a larger tank for more volume.

I suspect the media cabinet owner's manual will have a suggested minimum CFM requirement at x pressure listed inside; or on their website. Go one size larger than minimum; the compressor will be happier for longer if it does not need to run WFO all the time just to keep up.

If you can lower the pressure at the gun, you may can get away with what you have for a short while. I think most shoot at 90PSI at the gun? A 2-stage, 80 gallon would be the minimum if you plan to do a lot of blasting. The more the compressor runs the more heat builds up in the air lines and may cause trouble with your blasting media. If it's only for a few projects maybe you can get away with it. If you are planning on doing a lot of blasting you will need to upgrade.
