Actually through the attic and out through the roof. The placement of the laundry room is horrible. I had to cut the vent tube so I can reach in and clean out the roof vent from the inside periodically. I happened to take pics today to show my FIL:

It's far from a proper setup. You can see by the piles of duct tape and extra "insulation" that I legit have to crawl up there quarterly.

My parents' beach condo has a portable vent right in the laundry closet. It vents into a tray filled with water mounted on the wall with no issues. I bought one and tried it, but it made the house completely uncomfortable and humid even with the laundry room closed off. I told my wife she was full of shit until I experienced it myself.

I received a buyout offer at my place of employment, but I am only 48 with 2 kids in school, and the offer is for less than $200k. Maybe if they do it again in about 8 years.
