Default Need a history lesson

Can someone educate me as to what event or time the Representatives stopped actually being Representatives and became managers?

I recall from school history, that we sent them to DC to speak on behalf of the people. Not every citizen could go to Washington so we sought out people to gather our ideas/suggestions/complaints, and carry them DC on our behalf.

When did they become "leaders"? When did the government switch from bottom up to top down?

Lived in Alexandria in 84, that wife worked for a congressman (MC- Member of Congress). It's all rigged to keep them in power and increase their wealth. And this is why term limits won't work - New MC comes in, needs to set up an office and hire staff. What staff is available, why all the staff from MC's that didn't get re-elected. So new MC hires staff and tell them this is what he wants to do, staff tells MC noooo, that's not how it's done here, this is how it's done. After a few months new MC is beat down by the entrenched system and then through Helsinki Syndrome starts to embrace it. Said MC seals his conversion to the Dark Side by running for re-election.

The perks are immense, I can't even image what they are now. When we were there, there was at least one, probably more, 'cocktail' hours held every night by some lobbyist or company. I'm not talking bar drinks and finger food, this was top-shelf liquor and steamships of beef to be carved & all you wanted. MC's would come in for a while & then go off to some restaurant or whore house with the lobbyist, staff could stay as long as they wanted. Went to some weekend parties at MC house, big shots from both parties were there, best of friends on the weekend.

It's just a big game to them. Now I paint with a big brush, but you get the drift.

Don Jr. said he heard Chuck Schumer say with a laugh he spends 90% of his time raising money. We can assume that’s what the majority of politicians do. This was back in the days when democrats liked the Trump family. Don said that this was one of the things that caused his dad to start saying something had to be done about the corruption in Washington.

Half the country blindly voted out the one man, the outsider, trying to fix things.

The catastrophe event would be the election of Woodrow Wilson and the passing of the 17th amendment.

Lots of responses that I don't believe addressed your question. We have a representative government. That means we elect people that we feel will represent our best interests. The thought that they should, or could, get popular feedback on every decision, take a poll, whatever, is just not possible. Nor, in my mind, is a really good way to go especially in today's media driven environment.

As far as leadership, that is purely a characteristic of those who can do so. If you want bottoms up, then force term limits and correct the current "retirement" system that congress affords. I do not know enough about the original formation, but I suspect just like the frog in boiling water, congress slowly adjusted the assignment from a calling to a career.

They became the sovereign instead of the servant when they gained control of our money. When they were no longer dependent on direct taxation, they no longer needed to ask permission.

More or less when FDR outlawed gold but it’s always been an incremental game. We could go further back to the creation of the Federal Reserve and look at all the changes made from that point forward. Another big one was the Nixon Shock in 1971, which was the start of the current global fiat system. That is coming to an end now.

This battle is never static and there’s no telling what comes next but it doesn’t have to be Orwellian. It’s a matter of understanding the nature of money and using that knowledge to avoid becoming a dependent on and of corporate government.

today's example of the self perpetuating swamp:

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/jim...man-retirement

Jordan was just sworn in 24 days ago, and he's already thinking about the next election, and if he wants to step up to the Senate.

"can't talk, gotta go on Fox, and then off to another fund raiser, have to meet the people who will tell me how i'm going to vote going forward"

It's been about the money and power since day one. That fact that more money got pushed into the system in the 1960s made it even worse and we've been going downhill ever since.
