Default The Eclispe

We have 2380 confirmed reservations from Thursday through Saturday night @ the airport. My head's exploding- I can't wrap my mind around that number. That means we had to bring in 1500 cars (over the 1100 on the ground), figure out where to park them, get them clean, and ultimately into a garage (164 car capacity) to be picked up.

And for the fun part- they'll all come back 1-2 days later. OMG- who knew this would turn into a "thing."

I just heard today some people talking about how they decided not to go to Bend do to the fact that the area can't handle the influx. I know two people myself traveling to see the eclipse, one to Illinois and one to Kansas, I would have never thought of traveling to see it

Best advice - DO NOT LOOK AT IT.

Countless images will immediately appear on the web. If you absolutely MUST see the Eclipse, look at those. Your eyes will thank you.

We are going to be in the path of totality fro about 2 and a half minutes. I have had several friends come and ask me if they could come to my place to watch it. Some school districts are canceling classes, some business are shutting down... I didnt think it would be such a big deal but I guess it is.

To see an eclipse? Meh, call me jaded, hick, or whatever. I get to see one everyday. It's called night.

I know Mutsobitchy made a lot of them for Chrysler, but I don't see the reason to stare at one.....

Just got my 10x solar binoculars and tried them out. It's a bit overcast but the only thing you can see with them is the solar disk. They are freaking dark. Something you might want to try with your el-cheapo eclipse glasses. Put them on and see if you can see an LED flashlight pointed right at them. If you can see more than the tiniest dot of light, they aren't dark enough.

Going out to take a pix, and a passing glimpse is not enough to damage eyes, is it??

Glancing at the sun won't hurt your eyes. Staring at it will. Same thing with the eclipse. As long as you don't stare at it for the duration, you'll be fine.

The concentrated light coming through a camera lens can blind you like that. Do not take a picture of the sun without the appropriate equipment. For one thing, the picture will be complete shit. The camera will not be able to handle that level of light, and you aren't going to be anywhere near the totality anyway. Even a tiny sliver of the sun will totally overwhelm the camera's CCD. If you want to take a picture of it, just get one of the 1000's that will be taken that day off the web. And use a pinhole camera setup or certified eclipse glasses otherwise.

Use binoculars. They will filter out all the harmful rays.

Has the state of Oregon declared a state of emergency yet? Some states have.
