TENS Unit

Has anybody had success with one of these? I've been issued one and I absolutely hate it and don't understand how electrocuting myself for half an hour three times a day is going to fix my neck pain.

I have one. The idea behind them is they intercept the pain signal to your brain.

Mine never did jack shit for me.

The Tens unit is supposed to enable the user to better tolerate the pain and manage activities better. After spending 30 years in the medical field I am not totally convinced it works any better than a good anti-inflammatory, I.E. nuproxen, or any others. As a caveat, some people swear by them, but I am not. To me they are just another holistic remedy, like acupuncture, massage , stones etc that may be somewhat effective if you believe they are. Just an opinion ,not based on scientific fact.

Great. I'm almost hoping my insurance wont cover this, I'll find out in a week or so, then I can send it back. It's making me such a witch that my family has all retreated upstairs. I have it on the first setting I can feel and I HATE IT!!!!!!!

Same here. I've had one for about three years and am supposed to wear mine on my back all day, but it does little more thna annoy the shit out of me. It's also supposed to cause the muscles to tense up and relax causing a "massage" effect. I call bullshit on that play. On occasion, when my back is is excrusciating pain, it does help a little, though, not much... but just a little.

Oh, and don't get drunk, put the thing on your nipples, and turn it on full blast

Stop using it if it's that bad. Tell your doc to find some other remedy.

I have one and find that it does do a good job, sometimes, with relieving my pain. Bending over patients on a daily basis takes its toll on my shoulders and lower back. I find the TENS does a good job loosening the tension. Not all the time, but enough that I do think it has its place... FWIW, I've found the best relief in pain from frequent stretching/yoga and strength training

I'm trying everything they throw at me. I've already done PT, steroid shots, had the nerves cauterized, chiropractor, now this. I am on Vicodin daily and that is the only relief I get. At this point I'll try anything!

I have one sitting a few feet from me. Actually works well MOST of the time. If the pain is severe enough, it won't do shit.

Personally I use scotch. Insurance doesn't cover it, but I don't have trouble getting refills

Acupuncture (only twice) and ROLFING worked after pain meds and quarterizing failed. Went for the Rolfing 1/2 dozen times before I noticed comfort. Pain free for almost a year after 3 mos of it.

my wife has one, and she uses it... I can't stand the stupid thing... I electrocute myself enough accidentally. Putting electrodes on my body just seems to be asking for trouble

DAMN, U 2?? I use alky to kill pains....but mine are terminal for over 25 years now, freeking skeleton was a rusty used cheep import from reprocessed crap of some sort....

the person I feel for is my wife, she get neck pains and tons of headaches too, and we both suffer from 'tenitis'...that high pitch ringing/tones in the ears....mine never goes away, I just learned to tune it out, back when a little kid yet...my mother had it...Linda has it too, but some times it's really bad...

love to reset the clock 50 years....

Ifell your pain on that one. I live on a diet of Fioricet, Tramadol, and Ambien. Can't take vicodin, percocet, lortab, or any of that stuff because I'm super allergic to it.
