ARGGGGGG WTH? Computer video issue

Every time I try to play a video I recorded, regardless of the device it was recorded on, I get this message when I try to watch it...

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.

How do I fix this?

Try VLC player. If it works, ditch Media Player. If not, youVLC are back to troubleshooting.


I've used VLC for a long time with no issues.

VLC plays almost anything.

Maybe you have an out of date or corrupt driver? Try an update or reinstall?

Whatever codec your videos are recorded in somehow went missing. Could be malware or just a bad registry setting after an update. How to fix it? Well, you'd need to figure out what your videos are encoded with first and foremost. But as suggested, trying a different player will typically correct the problem because it will install its own set of codecs.
