Doug, did you notice working with the teak was much different than the other woods? IIRC, we went thru more than a few blades building that deck, drill bits, circular and Saw Zaw blades.....

not really, no. but i had a clean, sharp blade in the TS. and didn't make that many cuts of the teak. two cuts per piece to chop off the grooves, and then 3 more to make strips.

i know from working with teak before (some from Burma), if you are doing lots of cutting and routing, it's really tough on your blades, lots of silica (sand) in the mix.

what will the oak become? stay tuned....

if they were made from ipe and teak the contrast would be nice and you could slice meat with a chainsaw on them.

no way, that thing should be out on the counter and used. a few marks would add nice character.

I have a feeling it's going to take up residency on our kitchen island countertop, and used daily!

There's a lot of "life" in this little cutting board! I cut the trees down over 25 years ago. These giant logs were loaded onto my pick up and taken to a local farmer that has a Wood Mizer. We, meaning the farmer and I cut them into boards then back on the truck. Then stacked and air dried in my garage loft for decades. I pulled out a dozen or so cut them down to 4'0" and shipped them practically across the country (Pa to NM) to Doug. Then of course Dougs "handy" work, he added his touch!

The funniest thing is, I really do recognize the boards, as I moved them around so many times! I can practically smell the shop and feel the dust in my lungs!

finish coat #3 (and last). let it soak in overnight, again, then buff it out tomorrow.

used about 1/2 bottle of finish to treat this board and get it well full of oil/wax. later applications will only take a small amount each time.

we're going to call this done. put it on the antique kitchen scale we have, scale says just under 13 lbs. so don't let someone bonk you over the head with it, it'll hurt. all day.

i'll get it packed up this week and shipped off. have to make/modify a box or 2.

and the aftermath: gather up the scraps, find a few in my scrap pile (walnut), add in a dash of some light cherry that wasn't used in the above board, and you have enough to make another, smaller, cutting board for a neighbor. initial glue up, more tomorrow, it'll be about 10-1/2 x 14 x 1-1/2 thick, if all goes well. there are some spots in this set of sticks i may have to cut around (knots), if so, it'll get shorter, as i'll have fewer usable pieces to do the second glue up. stay tuned.

Said neighbor (L), will be more than appreciative! Why I sent extra, my plan is working!

You, of course deserve ALL the credit, smooth move, brill cream!

Have you worked with the epoxy fillers yet? Maybe it can be used of the knot areas???

there are a few small spots on your board where some dumbass made a screw hole..... ...... and in order to make the board as large as requested, i had to use and save these areas, so i took some mixed sawdust and some glue, mixed them together and used a putty knife to stuff the hole full. they dried up overnight, and they are fine now. if you look closely, you'll see them, but they are near the edges.

i've also used bar top epoxy for other projects, but i think it would chip and be hard to finish well, so i don't use that on cutting boards.

had 3 bad spots i had to cut around, so basically lost one strip. got 15 total.
