Default What is the Deal with Bob Dylan's popularity?

Seriously.

Sounds like he's channeling Porky Pig in a perpetual stutter.

And why is his songwriting held in such high regard? A third grader could compose most of his catalog.

Sheesh.

Sold some vinyl records of his I bought in a yard sale. Those things are about as highly collectible as they can be.

'Bout the only thing those albums are good for... selling them for $$$$$.

His early songwriting is outstanding, lyrically at least.

But I guess you had to be there. His singing and guitar playing are nothing special, though, and that's being kind. Ever notice any Dylan song sounds much better when anyone else does them? You can't say that about too many artists.

Try just googling his lyrics and read them like poetry, without the distraction of his voice trying to sing them.

I'm not a huge fan and dislike his voice but he's a hell of a writer.

yep.

Dylan is a songwriter, and a damn good one. But as a performer... not so great.

This is one song of his that I do like his singing. The first time I heard it was November 9, 1979.

Yeah man

Also like Tangle Up in Blue. Man's got a way with words.
Same reason I always enjoy listening to Jackson Browne and Warren Zevon.
Warren is a funny mofo.

I remember hearing of his death and was not surprised as he had been "sick" for some time.

I saw him at some small bar near Buffalo back in '99 or '00.
He had just announced he was "sick" and rumor at that time was he had some stomach cancer.

Buddy and I drove 7 hours to see him and there were maybe 40 people there.
I was amazed at how small a crowd it was and it was a great jam!
I kept looking around wondering where the hell everyone went to.

Folks don't appreciate what they have 'til it's gone. The human condition I suppose.

When R&R degenerated into that hippy dippy crap......I quit listening.....

Long about 64 or so......was more into Jazz/Blues/C&W even classical anyway.....REAL music, ya know???
