Default The best insect repellent for mosquitoes?

Your experience and thoughts ? I have been through six or seven different kinds this year and have minimal success. I need knee high in the bushes and deep woods kind of stuff.

Whatever has the most DEET in it, deep woods off works great for me. That and a bug suit if really bad out.
Are you looking for a yard treatment or personal?

Few years back we had a hurricane and floods, a long dormant skeeter hatched(only hatches during floods) and you couldn't get 20 ft without being abused. A 5 minute walk was absolutely a nightmare even with off being used. Had to spray yard every couple of days for a month and fogged couple times a week.

Living in Southwest Florida, I'm happy to say our Mosquito Control District does a fine job controlling those pests. I mean, yes, our race club gets to use their airstrip, but anytime I log a complaint on their website, a tech shows up in a day or so and does an extra treatment.

South Florida is a cesspool for mosquitos, but I think what they do is over the top. Also, Lee County is the largest land mass to control for a single district in the entire state.

It wasn't always this way, but for the past 8-10 years, they have been awesome. Not sure what they use, or how they use it, but it works.

Sawyer Maxi Deet

They also sell a clothing treatment used by the military. Both were crucial for being in the jungle. You have to treat the clothing ahead of time. It has to be sprayed then let dry for 24 hours before wearing. You can wash the clothes six times before reapplying.

Go easy on the Maxi Deet. If you use too much your lips will get numb because you are absorbing it.

One person on an expedition didn’t want to use it because she is a health nut. She was eaten alive. Meanwhile, I don’t think I had one bite the entire time.

However, I have grown another leg from my neck.

I used to use avon skin soft bath oil. I think they make a bug spray with it now. I haven’t tried the new product.

When I visited a friend in Alaska he gave us Muskol lotion. I believe the mosquito is Alaska’s state bird.

Sawyer and Muskol are just different products that are about 100% DEET when dried. I'm sure they'll both be potent enough to work, albeit the extra leg with Sawyer is intriguing...

Also known as the Alaska Air Force

Also spraying gasoline on your legs helps but you might start walking like a Tennessee walking horse
(just kidding about actually using gasoline )

When hurricane Dorian sat of the coast here for nearly a week they stopped all treatments for the week before and after. The Tiger Mosquitoes were out in force. We could not let the dogs out to pee because they were being swarmed. When I lathered up in DEET they treated it like a tenderizer. Immediately after they spray the ground then fogged the neighborhood could you go outside.

Without mosquito control this area would be a waste land.

They don't make it like they used to. Probably some asinine government regulation so in order to obtain the good stuff you need to get it from an exempt source. In other words check out an Army Surplus store for some of this and if you can find it empty the shelf.

A person on the Facebook hiking group ,Hike WNY mentioned ; Johnson's baby oil creamy oil. with aloe & Vitamin E. It comes in a green tube and is 8oz. Bought mine in the baby section of the drug area in Walmart for $4.15.

Didn't try it yet. Read many reviews claiming it will keep the mosquitoes away.

Also, Repel Plant-Based Lemon Eucalyptus Insect Repellent 4 Ounces, Repels Mosquitoes Up To 6 Hours. Spray on my boots, socks and bottom pants to repel ticks. It's all organic and in camping section of Walmart , less than $5.00.
