They wouldn't have burst into flame if they put a ONE DOLLAR part on the bolt ends so the tank wouldn't rupture in a crash

Back then, one dollar was a lot of profit loss for a car that cost $1900 - $2200

Back in the day I always had a horrible fear of being caught in traffic behind a Pinto and in front of an Audi 500.

Bought my wife one too in '71, she loved it.
Me, not so much. Went on a 3 hour trip in it, and in my 20's, I was so cramped up I could hardly get out of it....never again.
