Good to hear you are okay!!!

Just got back from home depot....... All my yard supplys were in my shed that went dow the river in the flood. So had to buy a new chain saw branch sheers and wheel barrow... Time to get some work done! Off from work today. Shop has no power either. Ugh...

The house

Small tree that landed on our 2 week old AC compressor that we replaced because the flood destroyed the old one! AHHH!

What a mess.... At least we will have some fire wood

We've had a few of those tree snappers here in the past. This one caught us by surprise. It was in the middle of the hot spell. This tree is really 3 trunks that came up together and are each about 30" in diameter and I would guess about 80' tall. What stopped it from going over is a mystery. It would have taken out the garage and possibly part of the house. We were very lucky. $800 tree service and the problem is gone.

The tree runs from the bottom right to the top left. It also hangs over 3 more branches from 3 other trees that hang directly over the house.

When the trunk cracked the top moved several feet and snapped off another tree top at about 6" is diameter. I couldn't figure out what could broken off a tree top like a tooth pick until I saw the big one.

I dont know squat about winter but, the FOX news gave a warning to people last week concerning the issue with leaves and snow. It made sense to me.

My question to you "winter people" is; How can this be prevented? Hey, give me a break Im trying to learn.

To be honest Pete, really nothing. If you live in an area where this is a possibility, all you can do is make sure there are no trees that are close enough that can fall onto your house. Late spring snow storms are usually the worst, as the trees have leafed and the snow load becomes too great sometimes even for the biggest trees.

Im thinking about it. Its too expensive here. My retirement check is the same here, Montana, Texas, Greece and Its time to see where I can stretch it the longest for my benefit. I love it here, plenty of roads, things to do etc but, this is not the best place on earth.

I do know that here in West Virginia we have one of the lowest tax rates in the country.. I have a $270,000. home on 2 1/2 acres of land, and I pay $1,100 taxes a year..In comparision,my wifes parents have a $350,000 home in Maryland on 1 acre , and they pay close to $4,000 taxes a year..Problem is if your use to lots of people , and lots of thing to do, you will go crazy real fast living here........WW

Was he a pool cleaner?

I dont know what Hokie did for a living. I remember the time I was asking about concrete he sent me a PM telling me that concrete was his daily thing and gave me a bunch of specs. I only took socalmans advice and it proved to work pretty damn good.
