Default Dana 44 Rebuild, any suggestions?

Hello, I have a 93 non ZR1. But, I have D44 with 3.73 gears that is clunking. I got underneath the car and checked u joints, they are fine. But, when I had it neutral and moved the tires you can clearly hear a clunking noise in the diff, either way you move it.
I had Ikerds build this back in early 2000s while I lived in Hawaii. It has about 30000 miles on , 24000 miles on the island. I lived there 12 years..
Anyways, when cruising I was hearing a noise back there, and the end links were bad. Replaced those. U Joints have about 3000 miles on them. Spicers, I believe. But, no racing since being back here, just cruising a hot dogging it here and there, with a 396LT1 and auto..
Anyways, I have some almost new 3.33 gears, but, thinking of just rebuilding the Dana, and need suggestions, recommendations.
Thnx, Steve

I thought Ikerds did the Zip product rebuilds? Its been a long time since I had dealt with searching rebuild services..
I checked the oil this morning. Golden color, still.. Very few miles in reality.
I think I need to dive deeper into this noise. You can hear noise in there, when moving tires, and car in neutral, but nothing sounds Broken, if that makes sense.

If you do not have the specialized tools for a D44, take it to a reputable shop.

If you are lucky, the carrier bearings are worn (lost their preload).
If you are unlucky, the ring and pinion are worn. I doubt that though as it isn’t whining.

I wish I had more time to work on it.. I am in a lull now, with work, but at 55, today, I am not looking forward to pulling the rearend.
Still doing transmissions? Side note, co worker just had a 4l60E done, so he was told. No 4th, and one pan bolt was hanging out, dirty as heck, and the tow haul button doesnt work now. 2000 Silverado. As soon as he showed it to me, I thought, PeteK would Not have done him wrong like this.

Tell me about it. My C4 broke down three years ago; the opti went bad after I had fun during an extreme-spirited drive. I have all parts, but things have changed, and the "Corvette Fever" has been exiting my life for the last 5 years. My 2016 C7Z06 only has 21,000 miles. I even bought a Ram and I do love the comfort.

On the other hand, you will not find a reliable mechanic to work in our Vettes. Don't worry; one day, you'll say, "F*ck it, let's do this."
