Default Looks like I'll be working at home for a while due to...

the Corona Virus. They just had a case confirmed in Santa Clara, CA (i.e. Silicone Valley) here in CA.

I take the Amtrak train to Santa Clara from Woodland. It's a 2.5 hour trip one way. The good news is I only go in 1 day a week on Mondays. The rest of the week I work from home. The reason I have to be careful is I had my Spleen removed back in 1986.

INFO: The spleen filters blood and helps the body fight infections, but it's not essential for survival. The spleen can be removed if, for instance, it's damaged. However, people without a spleen are more prone to infections.

I have been dismayed with the entire world's response (or slow witted lack thereof) to the obvious rapid spread of what appears to be an easily transmitted new bug. It has already escaped the country of origin far too easily IMHO.
Stay home, stay well.

Thousands die worldwide every year from the flu, and that’s okay. A new virus kills a few and the world panics. We’ve lost all common sense and perspective.

The flu had a "patient zero" at one point as well. It was not contained and controlled so now the entire world suffers each year either from the disease itself or from losses from having people not doing whatever it is they do every day. Plus the virus seems quite plastic; with rapid strain mutation meaning the world health services spend huge time and treasure trying to stay ahead of the bug with the shots.

If this virus is not contained and allowed to burn itself out there would quite likely need to be another organism added to the immunization protocol, and there would be more worldwide suffering and loss of productivity as the virus spreads.
If thought of in this way it is not a great leap to think we have done a piss poor job so far in response to a genuine new threat to worldwide health.

Yeah it is. When I started back in 2015, I was doing it 4 days a week. I would get up at 3:30am and arrive at the plant at 7:30am. I would leave the plant at 3pm and arrive home at 6:10pm. I would have ~3 hours to get work out of my head and go to bed at 9:00pm.

The only good thing about taking the train is i caught up on movies and TV series. The reason for working there is the pay. I make about $130k/year. This will be my last year as I plan to retire when I turn 65 in May.

I know of someone out there who mainly tele-commutes, and drives that same ~2 hr trip maybe twice/month, trick is that she is the only one on her team who actually sees the entire pix of the projects at hand, so it seems....

Stay home and be safe

That's one hell of a commute, regardless of pay
