I know three people flying out to Texas for event, one going private, all paying for rental cars and hotels--I have MANY better things to spend my stacks on.

I will remain here, if I wanted a blackout I would ignore my FPL bill for a few months.

LOL @ "Governess Hokum." Fits her perfectly. Anything for the spotlight, just like her mentor, Chuckie Schumer.

Yes, eclipses aren't that big of a deal. From my previous post, #2:

I think we're around 94%. I'll be on the road all day so I'll see it, especially since the forecast looks real nice for Monday.

Per a radio interview this morning, I'm reassured that the power company will be on alert to make sure everybody's lights stay on during this life changing event...kind of like they do every night.

I tried caring about this, but it's not happening. Less interested now that Houston will be a gray overcast day.

One thing I recall last fall during the eclipse, there was near complete silence. No birds chirping or flying around. Reminded me of the Stephen King Movie The Langoliers. Creepy.

Kinda like the creepy silence in Red Dawn when the dirtbag liberals took over and killed a bunch of normal Americans. Wolverines took out the bad guy liberals luckily.

4 minutes of totality here. Having a bunch of family over, smoking a brisket, ribs and sausage.

Mostly cloudy forecast. If they bail on me, I'm going to be eating BBQ for a month.

100% in Texas? That doesn't seem right according to maps I've seen. Don't have time to check one right now.

If it were in my area, I'd watch it. Have watched several, beginning as a child over 50 years ago. I actually prefer a dramatic sunrise or sunset or meteor shower. Some of the most fun I've had with the heavens was using a huge telescope on a desert camping trip. We could see the moons of Saturn, other solar systems, Jupiter's stripes, etc. Here's a photo from the guy with the telescope. Click image for larger version

Thanks for sharing those shots! I particularly appreciate the Saturn picture because thats exactly how I remember it looking through the telescope, but only much tinier because I had a cheap scope.

No. It was taken by the guy I went camping with in the desert a few times. He's a professional astronomer and photographer. He takes wild time lapses of the Milky Way, etc. as well. His telescope is literally bigger than a hot water heater. The objective lens must be 20" in diameter. I had never seen anything like it, looking though it. The main surprise was the detail, and the multiple colors.

In less than 60 days from Reds return, you two just couldn’t keep from jumping in the sack…
