For Prep/quick cooking, Right front. Everything starts on this burner.
It is the largest round burner, not counting the center griddle burner (oval).
For long period cooking/simmering, left front burner (2nd largest)
The 2 back burners are not used too often, but the right side is
used (smallest burner) more than the Right rear.

Whichever one is the correct size for pan or pot

Spices are to the left and utensils are to the right.

Uh, they are burners in Texas, too. Never heard "eye" as a euphemism for burner.

No favorite although the two on the left have extra-low settings so they cycle on and off (gas.) I do use the front left the most though. I'm right handed and that works best for me.

Right front for me also...just used it today!

I have heard of burners on electric cooktops that have ceramic glass surfaces (instead of electric coils) referred to as 'eyes', but only in that instance.

Near identical setup to that range there, and yes spices to the left, silverware to the right, but I rearranged the range from a wall install into a island range facing the party/dining/living area, with a bar top ...so the top was cut off where the oven panel is/was, and it built into the left side of the backsplash.....gas range running off BBQ tank outside....put tile over the cut up area of the range.....so total custom install....

It comes from wood burning stoves. The circular round pieces that you could remove from the top of the cook stove were called an "eye". It's a term that I grew up with, and obviously still use. Still a pretty common term up in them thar hills!

You like living dangerously. Reaching over another burner no matter which way you approach.

His "office" is in a helicopter. I think he can handle the danger of reaching over a cooking stove.

At my house in NH, it was the center burner. The GE gas stove had a large central burner and a griddle. Used that all the time.
