I'd shoot for a water landing assuming I could still climb to altitude.

This is all I have on the story:

Quote:
At about 5:53 p.m the airplane sustained "substantial damage" after hitting trees during an aborted landing in the waters of Halibut Cove, Alaska. The pilot was the sole occupant of the plane and was uninjured. No flight plan was filed.

Various witnesses told the NTSB by phone that as the Cessna approached from the west, it briefly touched down in the calm, glassy waters of Halibut Cove, before becoming airborne again. Witnesses said after the airplane began a steep climb to the west, it veered sharply to the left.

As the plane continued climbing in a south-southwest direction, it struck a large stand of trees on the southern shoreline of Halibut Cove.

Witnesses said the airplane's left float was severed, and the airplane immediately descended, nose first, into the waters of Halibut Cove.

The airplane struck the water about 100 feet from a commercial tour vessel that was operating within Halibut Cove.

Rogoff freed herself from the partially submerged and sinking wreckage. Rescuers were able to reach the airplane just moments after the accident and provide help.

I am thinking that the pilot had seen the trees, and used aileron to steer away... instead should of used rudder.

too many pilots think rudder pedals are to be used when taxiing, and never touched when airborne.

Sometimes I think I'd like to learn to fly...and sometimes I think I shouldn't.

We have a small airport 2 miles from out house and I shared a beer with one of the instructors that does classes out of that hub.

He told me they put together a club with monthly dues to bring down prices.
Very tempting but I've had a few bad dreams about dying in plane crashes so that probably ain't happening.

No problem:

1. Water landing, with preparation for timely exit.

2. Locate change of pants.
