Slovik deserted because he was scared, and was made an example to discourage other desertions...He was guilty of being a coward.

Bergdahl deserted and joined the enemy. IMO, much more serious, but we are too weeniefied to do the right thing.

I, for one, would love to sit on the potential Court-Martial panel. While I know that I could not get a death penalty approved by the panel. If a death penalty was agreed to it would probably not be approved by LTG Milley as the Court-Martial Convening Authority.

I would certainly hold out for at least a 50-year sentence without parole.
