Supermoon
Much talk of supermoon this week. Rented a lens since I don't have a serious telephoto. Tamaron 150-600. This is a crop of a 600mm shot.
And a wide angle shot over the Dallas skyline. |

I'm not sure my opinion is worth much as I have no previous experience with telephotos over 300 mm and not a lot with telephotos in general.
I was pretty happy with the detail in the shot of the moon and it compared very well with shots posted in the FB group I post in. One friend has the Sigma equivalent and I think my shot was a little sharper but that could be due to processing. I took it out yesterday to try some bird shots and they seemed pretty sharp until I compared to some of the shots from some bird guys I know. A poor workman blames his tools, and I think my technique is lacking, not the lens. There is a new version of this lens I've heard about (G2 I think??) and it's supposed to be better. Funny, this morning just before leaving to return the lens I saw this (the old version which I was using): https://slickdeals.net/f/9344527-tam...tm_medium=RSS2 I'm sure this falls short of the best from Canon and Nikon, but for the $ probably not bad. Here's a link to the bird photos on FB if you are interested. BTW, I HATE FB but it's been a great tool for leaning more about photography and keeping up with my kids... https://www.facebook.com/nomondaysph...type=3&theater |

Yeah, the new version is supposed to be better. The Sigma Version is actually 2 different versions. I have the Sports version which is a beast. Yes you can get better pics with the Canon or Nikon using their 600mm but that's a dedicated 600mm and costs much more than these. I don't think you can find a better long zoom, especially in this price range. Nikon has a 200-500 that is very good too and comparable price.
I took this with my Sigma 150-600. |

Wow, that's really sharp... up there with the stuff Thomas is doing. I know he uses a gimbal mount of some kind on a heavy tripod. Was your eagle shot hand held?
