Actually, this is because there is literally no private sector spending on AIDS. Hillary opened her mouth and said there would be a price control on any vaccine or cure and that was done overnight.

On the other hand, there is a ton of private cancer money being spent. Much more than $22B

Not a ton of private money being spent on cancer research. The American Cancer Society, the largest private financer of cancer research, has spent about $3.4 billion on research grants since 1946.

$3.4B over 66 years.

It's been maybe 25 years now, but when Howard Hughes estate was left to the Hughes Medical Institute, his holdings in industry sold and so the Hughes Medical gig was moved next door to the National Institutes of Health, part of the Fed.gov....DHS and so Hughes operation worked really close with NIH to fund medical research....I suspect that relationship is still close .....

I know this from the inside, years ago, friends on both sides of the road.....

The NIH does good work, they are much more concerned with antivirals and antibiotics now than anything else with all the new bugs and resistant old ones popping up.

Another patent that got ****ed by the courts so why bother with this shit...

patent. The Clinton admin appointed a lot of judges that struck down patents. Antibiotics was a market segment that got hit hard by this due to the nature of the studies done. The result was the introduction of "life cycle management" to the industry- a reality I think is repulsive and sucks.
