The Wife Wants To Move South!!

Unbelievable!

We're thinking the Carolina coast somewhere, maybe the Myrtle Beach area.
She wants Virginia, but the coast is too jagged for my tastes.
Where along the coast from Virginia down to Charleston is :
A major airport, low taxes, decent housing prices, a decent job market,and nice beaches .

This won't happen immediately, but I'm gonna start hunting while the iron is hot.

Looking in the Myrtle beach / Conway area, there's an airport, low taxes, and decent housing prices. Anybody live there or know anything about this area?

That's past the Florida panhandle and we both don't want to live in Florida.
We want to be in a short driving distance to it though.

Good choice! I'm in Virginia Beach....decent housing costs and tax rates...close to Norfolk International Airport. We can fly to anywhere in the US in a short time and get to the St Thomas or St Martin in 6 hours. North or South Caroline coasts are nice but not as convenient to airports...until you get to Myrtle Beach. I could live there as well but it is a huge tourist town if you can deal with that. VB is very transient because of the large Navy presence here. Oceana Naval Air Station and Norfolk Naval Base are a key to our economy here. Jet noise is present if you live in certain areas. We like it here but would move further south as well. This winter has been miserable for a "beach town".

We want to avoid the military transient thing, that's why I'm gravitating toward MB... I wouldn't live directly on the coast, as the hurricane thing / tourist situation scares my wife. Between Conway and the coast of MB is kinda where my dart landed. A 10 - 15 minute drive to the coast is cool with us.
It's 10 hours to NYC and Naples Fl, 6½ to DC, and 12½ to where I am now.
All reasonable driving distances. An airport is a must though.

Check-out the Outer Banks, just take a drive down Highway 12. You'll fall in love with them. Or on the inland side of the sounds are really nice too.
