Default New Dually Diesel Towin' Truck Thread [well... maybe]

https://www.floridatrucksalesllc.com...L_17954253.veh

What thinketh ye, olde wise VBOT'ers?

1. I've never ever owned a diesel engine before.

2. Any foreknown/typical issues with this little beast I should be aware of?

3. Ya got something better?

I'm pretty much going to be close to the top of the towing range of the Chebby 2500hd truck I currently have, for the new 5th wheel RV I posted about in another thread.

This thing looks to be in pretty good shape.

Opinions and smart remarks are encouraged.

iirc, "Truck Guy" ( Russ ) does fleet leasing with Ford. Perhaps if you get him the VIN, he could check it out in the fomoco system for repairs/problems.

You won't need 4wd to drag your house around so why add to complexity/cost/maintenance?
I do not tow large objects which will need to be pre-approved for landing in many camping areas... do you really need a dually; or is a top of the line Super Duty adequate?
Did you consider the probable need to replace your current tow vehicle when you negotiated your new RVs purchase, and if so have you lost your mind?

The bolded and big ass text is for "Oh hell no!!!!"

I am not saying it is not in pretty good shape, I have no idea and it is impossible to tell from pictures. It could be a cream puff with 156,000 miles on it or it could be beat to shit. You have to go lay eyes on it in person to know. One thing is 100% for sure: it wasn't a garage queen. None of them are. With few exceptions, big diesel duallies are used for one thing: towing heavy-ass shit. They lead a hard life. And they hold their resale like nothing else.

I never say buying new is smarter than buying used, but this is one exception. The used ones bring blood money, both retail and wholesale. Even the pieces of shit. i say spend the money on a new one and enjoy having a warranty and the enjoyment of a new rig. The last thing you want to be thinking about while traveling and having fun is repairing the thing in BFE.

Don't buy any Diesel until you at least check out a Duramax. Very quiet for a Diesel, and the Allison tranny is great.

Also please consider the extra length a 4 door adds to your already looong trailer. In order to stay the night anywhere, the rig has to physically fit the site, and must be maneuverable enough to get into the site. Tight roads and a big rig equals monster frustration; and all kidding aside: I would call ahead to make certain there will be a space large enough to fit that thing when you arrive at your destination.

I will say, once you tow with a dually, you’ll never go back to single rear wheel. Unless you can verify it was used by Grandpa to tow his 5th wheel around, I agree- it will have some hard usage on it. I disagree on the 4WD tho. I always get 4X4. You never know when you might need it.

Yep. Diesel trucks are bought to be work horses. Exactly why you want one. I bought mine close to 20yrs ago brand new, it's a F250 7.3 with only 166k miles and I will venture to guess 100k of those miles were pulling something or another. The motor is bullet proof, it's everything around it that will fail

Have you checked Barton Family Motors? They carry nice low mileage trucks.

156,000 miles and still $32,000. I'm having a hard time reconciling those two numbers.

Son recently bought a new F250 Supercab Powerstroke 4WD. Moderately equipped, came in just under $50K. Damned thing will tow your house down the street if it could get enough traction.

I’m having the same issue, I know diesels run forever but what about the rest of the truck? Both those thrucks look nice but it still seems like a lot of money for the mileage but I know nothing about HD diesel prices

MY opinion is to cut down the size of the entire concept....as it stands, it's all a HUGE waste of money.....better off flying to the region, then renting something....
