This statement by Whitepower reminded of a story my cousin told me about at the cell phone service center she manages. She said there was a father and his 13-14 year old daughter. The daughter bitched, whined and complained continuously the whole time while they waited for service. When her father tried to get her to quit bitching she just got louder and verbally abused him. He did nothing.
There was an Army Sergeant setting behind her in the waiting area, apparently he got fed up with her mouth. He got up walked around in front of her and told her,"you will shut up, quit your complaining and wait your turn to get service just like everyone else here. He then went back to his seat. The father said, "you'd better listen to him." The girl shut up.
It is amazing to me how many parents have absolutely no control over their children and get no respect from the little bastards and bitches. I'll tell you that if my daughter had acted like that I would have snatched her up by her hair and drug her ass out of the store, wearing out both sets of kneecaps kicking her in the ass the whole way.

That sounds like my old man. I'll add he didn't only use a belt. He'd use whatever was close. I once got a whippin' with a limb he tore off a tree.

My sons are respectful but my 8yr old daughter can cop a real attitude. However, if she were to dis me in public, I don't care where we are or what we are doing, we would be out of there IMMEDIATELY! She can be a snot, and we take care of that at home, but even she knows to be respectful in public.

There were 2 rules in our house when the boys were growing up.

1. I can't make you behave or do the right thing, but I can make you wish you did.

2. I can always embarass you more than you can embarass me.

Both of them are fine young men with manners and integrity, and their Mom and I are very proud of them.

My son has been lifted up by the shirt collar and carried a few times. Not for smarting off to me but for fecking around when he's been told not to. My kids (8 y/o daughter & 6 y/o son) are both respectful and don't mouth off but they do get wound up at times and know better (most of the time) by a simple "HEY".

I am amazed at how many parents are completely clueless.

Yeah, I know. She ALREADY thinks she's a teenager! Throw in some hormones and she's fixin to be a real powder keg.

None of my kids are perfect, but when they are around other people they know they are expected to be on their best behavior. At home, we have our moments.

I have/use the same "look".

I can say more with a cocked eyebrow or a glare than most people can say yelling night and day for a week.
My sons heeded the "look" most of the time. When they didn't, punishment was swift and severe. None of this *Time out* bullshit.

Today, my oldest is a store manager with Panera Bread, my youngest is in the US Navy. (And, according to him via facebook, had a helluva good time in Singapor last week)

No real problems with either one of them, and I'm very proud of them both.
