It seems reasonable for a plan to be developed that addresses all the what ifs and what abouts before taking action. If we have people who have current contracts with the military, those contracts need to be honored and those folks should be allowed to serve out their enlistment. Having said that, i don't want to pay for people to have stuff added or removed, and I think that's just a bridge too far for most taxpayers.

Nope, out as soon as possible. Give 'em a parting gift of $$$ and call it good. What happens to folks that get one or more DUIs, develop a severe medical condition, or can't adapt to the military? See ya, that's what. There's no difference now with the transgender dealy-o. Just because "The government" changed it's mind also makes no difference. One thing I heard many, many times, "The needs of the Air Force". That means you'll go to a less than ideal base for your next assignment as just one example.

One can leave early since there are ways but the rules are tilted in Uncle's favor, in general. So it is kinda wonky but many know/find out at least in their first enlistment.

This is a true statement. Here's how I see this playing out. Six years as a First Sergeant gave me an in depth knowledge of situations like this.

Young Mr/Ms. transgender has a couple of options.
1). Finish out your current enlistment and since the new policy doesn't allow you to serve, you get your bus ticket home, thanks for playing.
2). Same person raises a stink, starts making threats to "sue" or starts making negative comments about the President. Boom, disciplinary action in the form of an Article 15 followed quickly by an administrative separation. Poor little Mr/Ms can file a congressional complaint, but guess what, you weren't kicked out for being trans, you were kicked out because your mouth overran your ass. A stink will be made, you might make a guest appearance on CNN but in 6 months people will forget about you.
3). You decide you're no longer transgender and continue on in your career.

That's about it.

Like it or not, President Trump is the Commander in Chief of the United States military and his orders, even by Tweet have the full weight of law. This whole "wait to see what the Pentagon" says is crap. It's over, done.
