Ford, GM, Toyota and others had EV's in the 1990's.

The one i test drove was extremly nice with all the features I wanted and would stay in electric mode for pretty much my entire round trip. Plus, where I park at work, there's an electrical outlet right there on the wall in the garage (handicap parking bitches) so the batteries would be recharged for my trip back to the hacienda. If they are being discontinued, then I foresee the price dropping drastically so they can move inventory. Wouldn't be a bad deal especially if I land this new job I am interviewing for (they've been coaching me on how to set my resume up to the format they want and what all I need to put into it ... it's promising...fingers crossed)
So you've decided to steal electricity from your employer.....

If you're going to buy a Chevy hybrid, the Malibu is the one to get.

Well, you know more than I ever will about the business, so you got me there. However, with the exception of fleet sales, specs never sell cars. I would guess that retail Malibu buyers are not Impala buyers and vice versa. There is also the fact that the competition has a similar line-up you need to go toe to toe with to be competitive. Or, just maybe, it's manufacturer's horse shit. Nothing new there.

Is the Malibu a plug-in Hybrid?

Not where I live, but in places like Silicon Valley so many employers are offering free recharging that people want to be able to charge their cars while they are at work. With a reasonable commute distance that can bring your fuel costs down to near zero.

Years ago I read an editorial in Car and Driver magazine that said a Prius is not a hybrid car. It is powered 100% by gasoline in the end. If you don't believe that stop putting gas in it and see what happens.

On the other hand, my son in law the car salesman, when he worked for Toyota came up with a great line for the Prius: "It's an electric car that you never have to plug in anywhere."

So, two ways of looking at everything, I guess.

It is not a plug in, but it will run 100% on electricity up to 55mph.

Keep in mind that the Malibu is a newer release than the Impala, and we don't know what will happen with a new Impala. The trend of new generations of vehicles getting bigger than the last seems to be continuing across the board. The outgoing Malibu was 4 inches shorter than the Impala, which is a huge difference. Even compared to the new Malibu, the Impala has 2 inches more rear leg room, and a much larger trunk. Both are considerable differences.

GM has an all new electric vehicle coming in 2019.

...and they still have the new "Bolt" EV that was just introduced.

2019 New GM Electric
