Chevy Volt may be discontinued...
The Chevy Volt was unveiled in 2010 to great fanfare. Politicians hailed it. The media gushed over it. The first electric car manufactured domestically, it was instantly a cause celebre, and it was hailed as part of the resurrection of General Motors.
There was one problem, though. The public was never excited about the Volt. With a price tag of more than $40,000, even government rebates of $7,500 weren't enough to convince many people to buy a Volt. It drives well enough and it's true that you don't have to put much gas in it (although you do need some in reserve just in case), but that type of price tag isn't within reach for most people, and GM seems to have forgotten that electricity isn't free either. Today, with the Volt continuing to disappoint, it is now on the chopping block and may be eliminated entirely from GM's lineup by 2020. Other GM cars at risk include the Buick LaCrosse, Cadillac CT6, Cadillac XTS, Chevrolet Impala and Chevrolet Sonic. https://www.hermancain.com/gm-consid...the-chevy-volt |

No surprise on the Volt.....I was rather unimpressed, nice car, but not THAT nice.....what amazes me is the sheer volume of car manufacturers out there these daze.....let alone labels/makes....so no wonder GM is under a lot of pressure which is only going to get worse....but they are correct, China is the market of the future, along with the rest of Asia as decades fly by.....
Wonder how long before China starts exporting cars to USA..... under their own badges that is, WTF, they make all the parts already..... |

The car even GM didn't want to offer. Neighbor had one back in 1997-1998. Pretty neat car. Went to the SEMA show in 1998, GM was asking people if they would own an EV1 as their only car. I said no, as I would drive half way across the country visiting family & the range sucked on the EV1. Told them I'd buy one as a city car for around town driving & keep a gas powered car for long trips. They didn't want to hear that. |

No big surprise there. I'll bet I can count on one hand the number of Volts I've seen on the road since 2010.

Personal experience? I thought the concept was interesting, but as I recall the actual real world numbers weren't anything special UNLESS you kept it plugged in constantly like a Nissan Leaf.
Speaking of the Leaf, I can't think of another car with such drastic depreciation. They must be HUGE turds. |

I test drove the Volt and really liked it. For how I drive and where I work, spending $30/m for electricity is better than $40-45 a week for gas. It comes out to about $1.00 and some change per day.
The one i test drove was extremly nice with all the features I wanted and would stay in electric mode for pretty much my entire round trip. Plus, where I park at work, there's an electrical outlet right there on the wall in the garage (handicap parking bitches) so the batteries would be recharged for my trip back to the hacienda. If they are being discontinued, then I foresee the price dropping drastically so they can move inventory. Wouldn't be a bad deal especially if I land this new job I am interviewing for (they've been coaching me on how to set my resume up to the format they want and what all I need to put into it ... it's promising...fingers crossed) |
