Ouch

Any time my '01 Suburban goes in a 4 post lift, a screw jack goes under the trailer hitch receiver so that doesn't happen.

Indeed.

If your goal for the day was to totally destroy a truck indoors without setting it on fire, I don't think you could do a better job than that guy did.

It's in the Paint Prep bay.

I think it's going to take a lot more prepping for paint now.

When I was working at a Chevrolet dealer in '01 they bought this big machine that applied some kind of mop and glow to the new cars after we charged them about 42 times what it actually cost us. The car stood stationary while the machine (think a big upside down U) travelled the distance of the car on a track from end to end and sprayed it.

One of our highly qualified migrant farm workers from the detail department parked and left a brand new 2500 crew cab next to the machine and walked away with the door left open. As the machine travelled it's path it ripped the door right off the truck when it came in contact with it.

The trouble is, I had just sold that truck with a 4K dealer markup and the buyer was in finance signing papers. We did not have another one in stock.

Enter my closer, one of the smoothest devils I have ever worked with. He tells the guy he is going to have a driver's door that has been fitted by an expert craftsman at a local body shop instead of a robot on an assembly line.

We gave the guy his choice of any truck on the used lot to drive for a week while the work was being done. He went for it and all was well. All I had to do was worry about him backing out of the deal for the next week. I was scared to look at my phone messages every morning.

Not to take the story off track, but have you guys ever met the 'holes that sell this kind of shit to dealers? If you think car salesmen are a little shady at times, you really owe it to yourself to meet the winners that sell these dog and pony shows.

They are guys who were too shady for dealerships.

Every place needs a closer. Ours was an enlisted guy named "Smitty". The dude always said the right thing at the right time no matter the situation. To give you an idea of how smooth; we were in a squadron "What we're doing and what we're gonna do" meeting. The O-6 Colonel Commander had plenty of officers available to quickly offer options for whatever was needed. At one point during discussions, the Commander stops the conversations, skips the usual chain of command, and asks Smitty what he thinks. Smitty answers with smart, logical, and workable solutions. No one disputed his thoughts.

Serious answer: The car business is NOTHING but a risk. The most successful do everything on gut instinct and nothing by the book.

Congressman Darrell Issa from California made his fortune selling car alarms to dealers. For that reason alone I would never vote for him for anything. Wholesalers are pretty sleazy usually, too. And the guys who drive cars for them look like they were fired from the carnival.

Printed a copy of that photo and gave it to our Service Director.
He hung it in the service training room with the caption "Don't be this guy!!!"
