I ordered the hearth stone a Daltile distributor, unfortunately you can't walk in to a Daltile store and purchase their materials... you need to bring you installing contractor in to purchase. So i found a company in Ca (Stone and Tile Shoppe https://stoneandtileshoppe.com) that would sell it and had it dropped shipped. Two pieces of (I believe) 40"w x 20"d x 3/4" thick and some tiles with a bullnose for the facing to finish it out. Seems they're losing a lot of business by not selling to the public... but oh well. They probably ordered the tile locally and had it shipped to me.

The hearth is built up with boards below and the stone is glued on. We experimented with several heights before settling on this. First we tried the stone flush with the carpet and it didn't look right. Total height is 3" and with the bullnose tile makes it look as if it's one large slab.

The original hearth was as high as the bottom of the fireplace insert and the original mantel was attached to the bookcases on each side.

The stone on the wall was purchased from one of our local Floor and Decor stores.
