I never knew this and had to look it up. Oh I know what a dry sump system is from fly military but never gave it a thought about them in cars. So the base model C7 is normal/wet and the higher ends like yours have dry.

Just curious, direct to the engine and return?

Base model engines (LT1) take about 6 qts.

Dry sump system used in some high-performance vehicles? It allows the vehicle to corner or brake for long periods; it allows the engine to develop more power; It allows for a greater oil capacity so that oil temperatures can be controlled.

Yes, and that has happened to many at dealerships. The lowest paid worker at a dealer are the clean up guys and oil changers. That happened to a friend with his Z06, when he arrived home he checked the oil level, there was nothing on the dipstick. Checked with th dealer, oil changer thought it was a base engine and put in just 6 qts. He added 3 more.

Did not go back there again.
