But it all depends on who last worked on that engine, if you know what I mean.

How is it that the 84 Crossfire Injection is so hated, and no one says anything about the 82 version?

82’s are the prettiest of all C3’s IMHO. Chromies and their awesome ‘bad boy’ reputations that halo to all C3’s are beauty/performance in their own class, but most of the inherent bugs in design were relatively worked out by ‘82. The only thing is that replacing a busted turn signal lever as age-worthy reality here requires a surprising amount of surgery effort (cost) and expertise on a late model C3 with tilt/tele because it is at least 3+ layers deep into the steering column. Beyond my DIY pay-grade.

There is no State inspection here in Georgia... an Edelbrock head/cam/intake kit, some headers and some FiTech will fix that right up.

Curious, what would that do to Horsepower and about what would it cost?

Crossfire for 82 was only on one model(Collector's Edition). Very few until the 84 C4
came out and it was the ONLY offering for all that year.

Fuel injection managed by computer=not many people wanted to mess with
it due to no training. Some did and usually dorked it up and that started the
smear against Crossfire(Throttle Body Injection).
I've had mine for 16 years and the only problem was a bad fuel pressure regulator
which took about a 2 hour fix as it involved opening up the throttle body.

Lots of low end torque! Throttle Body Injection was used on most of 80's and 90's Chevy/GMC
truck and van fleet and my 88 S10 Blazer 4.3 has TBI as well.

The 1982 and the 1984 Crossfire TBI had two throttle bodies with an injector
in each one. The left TBI fed the right cylinder bank while the right TBI fed the left
cylinder bank, hence the name CROSSFIRE. All the other TBI offerings had
one throttle body with both injectors in it.

I've had more people come up to me and my Vette and ask what year.
Most will offer their condolences when they realize it has the "hated" Crossfire.
I explain the reputaion is bullshit as it performs just fine when it's
maintained the way it's supposed to be maintained. All in the shop manual
like any other car.

I owned 4 C3's; and the CrossFire was the only one with good pull in the 2000-3500 rpm range.

The Crossfire was the only engine available in 1982 so says the Corvette Museum.

All 82's had the same engine...
