Default Paint clearcoat?

Last night I buffed the Vette doing the aftermarket hood last. When I installed my SC I replaced the rear quarters and hood (same painter). After buffing everything except the hood the buffer pad and Vette looked normal. However, when I buffed the hood the hood looked to stay wet and would not go clear like it does normally. I though the pad might have been saturated and hit a previously buffed spot and it buffed clear like normal (not the pad). I let it dry overnight and it looks good now after wiping off the Rejex residue.

I have never been to happy with the work on the hood, it scratches to easy compared to the rest of the Vette.

I am wondering maybe the painter never put clear coat on the hood.

Any thoughts?

Were you getting any color on your pad when you buffed the hood? If no color then you've probably got clear on there but maybe they didn't mix it right.

Hey Munch,

The pad turned black when I did the hood, as you know my Vette is black. Maybe I can hold off until this winter to get a good paint job with clear coat.

I had it painted in Virginia Beach. After I witnessed one of the painters pickup a rag off the ground and start wiping a customers car I decided not to do business with them again. They did a great job on my rear quarters.

Maybe they used a single stage paint on it, it's the cool thing to do these days. Last I knew GB was repainting his car with single stage black, maybe he can help you polish your hood.

If you haven't already heard, Barry at Nansemond Auto Body is great with the spray gun and color match.

I don't want to buff it any more, I am afraid of wearing through the paint. It looks better than it did but I still have some scratches. I need to find a quality painter, maybe someone that can paint a mural under the hood.

I stopped by to see Barry one time and he wasn't available to talk to. He is to far away from me not to be able to see him.

It sounds like they used a acrylic enamel that has the gloss and clear in it/one stage paint. That paint needs to be buffed to a shine a day or so after and yes the paint does scratch like crazy. I can paint the hood for you but as far as murals I cant hook you up there.

Thanks for the info, it buffed OK, I didn't want to buff to much I was wondering if I would go through the paint. Sounds like I need to buff the hood more often to keep the scratches out. Looks like i need a couple more layers of Rejex to by some time.

You and Dawg going to the 16th Annual Roundup June 2nd?
