FWIW: when I was young and didn't have shit for money, for years I drove VW Beetles as my every day and road trip cars that all had points ignition. I never had a problem I couldn't fix roadside with the spare points and condenser in my glove box (the ones I took out at the last engine service), so although I spent some time under the deck lid with a flashlight, nothing worse than that ever happened.

I have run both on various cars over the years, and once I got them adjusted right, I don't remember any problems with either. So again, if he expounded on why, I would be interested to hear.
I don’t know, seems some think they are better than points/dist while others don’t. Obviously DUB was a fan or he wouldn’t have put it on there. Of course my original stuff went MIA.

Funny how opinions vary so drastically on this topic.

This is a quote of how Lars feels about them: “I can't comment on EFI, as I've never played with the aftermarket units and have no experience with them. PerTronix, on the other hand, I can tell you is complete junk and nonsense. Horrible, unreliable stuff that serves no viable purpose at all. Keep your stock distributor with a good set of points correctly set up. Let me know if you need part numbers and specs. Don't let any mechanic talk you into doing the PerTronix swap“

Your car runs as is... don't add complexity, time and expense going backwards in time to points. If you insist on having a backup plan for the Pertronix (I don't think you will need one) get an HEI setup (runs on 1 wire!!!!!) with a tach drive and forget about it.
I like David Freiberger's advice on large projects... "don't get it right, just get it running" so you can use and enjoy it while you refine things.
Also, save the paint detailing until last on the list. The added stress of wrenching on a finished paint car is not on my list of desirable activities. There are way more pressing wrinkles to iron out!

Spot on advice.

Wet sanding/buffing paint is for later, not now.

Want easier for sure.

Car runs but has not run well, hence the carb LARS built.

As far as the paint. What about the bumpers, lights etc? Put them on now too and just tape off to cut/buff?

Know we DO NOT want the doors in till the consoled/dash stuff done as they just get in the way!

Headlights are in! They aren’t perfect but in.

Not perfect but parts going on.

Tim got these centered the best he could when I was at work today. The drivers side is closer in the upper outer corner. Needs to shift a little if anyone has pointers. I think they look great!

Headlights look good. I always build to factory tolerances. Not show
off. The more perfect it gets the more fake it becomes.
Good luck

The fit looks good! Did you keep them as vacuum or did you go electric?

Small steps...

The current plan is to hook them up to evaluate the vacuum. Mostly so we can check function.

Later: get Richard’s wiper and headlight door electric actuators, but for now that 1K upgrade is on pause.

Already 9k in the hole buying parts that went MIA at DUBS. 🙄 We don’t know stuff is missing till we get to that part of the car. Found out all the front grille brackets are missing as well.

Good thing I’ve been getting plenty of extra hours at work. Some place to spend all my earnings. 🥸

Ugh... sorry that you're so far upside down, wish we could have found more of your parts when we were loading you up. I should have taken a picture of the inside of his shop to show everyone how disorganized he was and so far over his head with backlogged work. Nothing organized, nothing labeled, parts all over, cars under tarps, cars half disassembled, etc. I was stunned.

Is there any opportunity to go back and search for the missing parts now?

That’s a good question. With as many cars as he was working on, I imagine most parts were picked over by others getting “their” stuff.

I recall back in my flying days, cotter pins were to be bent over at least halfway up the bold like it shows in that pic. if I found a cotter pin that was below half way of the bolt, the cotter pin had to be replaced.

Yes it probably would not made a difference at all but it was not the standard and would fail inspection.

The bottom part of the pin was to be bent back through the space on the nut and back to the end of the nut.

As I remember, Dub's widow was allowing customers with cars remaining to come in and take what's theirs and the rest was going to be auctioned off. I'm sure but Nic can fill us in on that.

I need to drive by and see if the place is cleaned out or razed.

To me, these look very good! Maybe not perfect, but sometimes perfection isn't worth the trouble. I would run those as is and never worry a second about it!

Steve, there is nothing left to go through.

She “sold” all the diagnostic and tools.

My understanding is the rest of the “parts” were purchased as a lot. I know for a fact my parts were there as my car showed up there completely intact.

Guess I have the absolute worst luck when it comes to cars. I thought I had done my research and even got tons of references for DUB….

At this point all I can do is suck it up. Can’t really take her to court as she has told me his estate is tied up in the courts. I’ll never see my parts or the $$$ I paid him. Sure if I pursued legal action, I would just be out more money to pay filing and attorney fees.

Just tying to get the car on the road to the best of our ability, which isn’t much!

That really sucks. Sorry that happened to y'all. FWIW, cutting your losses and moving forward seems like the the most sane thing to do.

Yep, that’s the plan. The problem is you have two complete morons when it comes to automotive stuff trying to figure this shit out we could make a movie like dumb and dumber for people to laugh at us because it is getting quite hysterical over here. I’m not even exaggerating when I tell you sometimes we spend 30 minutes trying to get a specific nut or bolt to fit.

Got new front air dam installed, 69 upgraded brake switch and these new taillights. Making little strides.

Also got about 4 hours of sanding done today too. Going slow since I’m not confident.
