Default @@@- 3.91 gears and more installed -@@@

It is done. Remember my thread regarding my legal battle with the differential shop? It is all done, installed, aligned and back on the road.

I ordered the tie rods and a heavy duty tow rods from Van Steel. The HD toe rod was either not delivered or stolen from my front door and that took another 4 weeks for it to clear.

Got the new batwing bushings installed. That was a PITA and I acquired lots of experience and saved at least $500 on labor by DIY.

thihs project took a long time because the problem with shop, FedEx screw-up, The Road Trip, my surgery and the heat in SoCal's Inland Empire not friendly.

Im giving the differential a break in period and took him in for alignment today to a place nearby here in Temecula. The 3.91 gears helped out the drone, it is not all the way gone but, it is more enjoyable now. Im taking it easy but, feels like an animal wants to come out of the cage.

Multi purpose pet food.

I'd like to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to Bryan (RedLS1GTO) and Pete K for their advice and words of expertise.

you should be set up fairly good for some drag racing now...well maybe with sticky tires.

I'd like to know how much the gas mileage changes too.

The MPH changed like this

with the 3.45 @ 2,000 RPM was doing 89 MPH

with the 3.91 @ 2,000 RPM does 78 MPH

BUT...

It has a nice take off even though Im taking it easy and it even takes off in 2nd without a struggle.

I know the MPG will go down but, I know there will be a gas station nearby before I run out of gas.

Glad to hear the Ghost is back on the road. What ever happened with the shop in Corona and the crappy job they did on your gears?

I executed a credit card dispute and I won. Reported them to the BBB and to the California Bureau of Automotive Repair. They investigated, I provided evidence of pictures statements, a letter from GS Gears and they received a low rating from the BAR.

The BAR in CA works great (now I know), if you would like to take your vehicle to a shop you can call them and they can tell you the shop's rating.

I just got back from doing two back-to-back 40 miles trip. I'll do a 20 mile tonight and the break in will be done. I stopped at McDonald's for lunch and while I was chowing down my Angus Mushroom Burger, there were three kids and grandpa admiring The Ghost. I wish Ive taken a picture, the kids were having a good time walking around it, looking inside etc.

Certainly one of the happy endings despite the headaches they put you through. The sad part is the next guy probably won't know to check on them and won't find out they got screwed until it's too late. Hopefully, next week I'll be posting up breaking in a new transmission.

Man, I am far from an expert.

You have done some seriously work to that car. I can't think of a more satisfying feeling than rolling down the road in a car that you have put that much work into. Definitely glad to see it back together.

Thanks Bryan.

Tonight I drove and finished the break in. I used a full tank f gas and at the very end did two WOT to 5,000 RPM and wow wow wow wow. The 3.91 is a big improvement from the 3.45.

Do you have any issues backing up with the 3.91? Random question, but if you took a ride in mine you would understand. I get a bad case of the shimmy shakes in reverse. A lot of it went away with my rear end rebuild but some of it is definitely still there.

I'll do a reverse test tonight. The few time I use the reverse is for backing off the garage or parking lots only and there is nothing different. I'll do about 100 meters tonight and get back to you.

Did a test today and the new gears took 12% on mileage.

hopefully the true gas mileage will only be about 5% less, but with your new found first gear and 2nd being like first-and-a-half, you'll probably be burning rubber and clutch linings trying it out for the next 15-20 days so your economy will probably be in the toilet.
