Default So I'm Kind Of In A Weird Place In My Life Now.....

I did rent the one side of my house out so I lost my office, the master bedroom and a bathroom. I moved my office to the back room that I built last year. Running the wires for phone, computer etc. is done and everything is back up and running.
It weird having someone else on the property but $850 a month is a pretty good chunk of change.
I'm just bored or something. Kids are gone, and all we do is go to work, come home and go to bed. Rinse & repeat. It hasn't snowed here yet and the 10 day has no snow in sight. Maybe once we get everything into it's proper place, I'll start reloading.
I have 5 years before I can get a full pension, I'm 52, and just stuck in a rut.
We're seriously talking about moving to Delaware though. 5 years.........

I'll snap out of it.

The people you rented to? They're making pr0n movies there. See if you can get a walk on part (no pun intended).

Edit: Seriously, though, I know just how you feel. Time just seems to march by, and Winter being upon us isn't helping.

Jeff, I already told you that you need to move south. You're cool, so I promise we forgive you for being a Yankee!!! Plus, you know we like our firearms, and changing the subject real quick, it's in the 60's and I'm wearing shorts!

Volunteer. I've had an absolute blast by volunteering in the past. Look for organizations and match them with what you like and go for it.

The Police Athletic League (sometimes called Police Activities League) is a great program for kids. Whatever your talent is, they can probably put it to use in a volunteer capacity.

I'm sure there's one like this near you.

God Jeff, sounds like ME, in Maryland, 18 years ago, but I think that if at all possible to head much further south....housing much cheaper, and do like I did before I remarried....built an addtion on back and rented it out....only ~300 a month income but it paid the utilities.....today I could get 450/month easy, with utilities included which would pay my total bills including taxes....

except my wife's mother here, and every other weekend, that PIA aunt of hers/mother's sister....

Empty nest syndrome. Start calling people you know with kids grown and go out with them.

I'm not ready to volunteer yet. That day will come though.
If it wasn't for the 5 more year to max my pension out thing, and the fact that I have full benes, I'd be outta here.
Maybe the fact that we're on the down side of the days getting shorter has something to do with it.
This getting dark at 4:30 crap is a real drag.

It's a 48 year old single guy who is a life coach and was originally from this town. He just drove cross country from Oregon, where he lived for a couple of years, to take care of a friend who has a blood disorder.
His 27 page background check was clean as a whistle, he has no credit according to the credit check, and appears to be a genuinely nice guy.
He's a health nut who works out and does a lot of shakes and that sort of thing.
Need help??? .... Aero?

Give him a shout.

When mine were off to college and they and their friends no longer needed us to watch or help them it got like you hav. Stuck in a rut. I was travelling so it was not that bad.

Now that we've moved south we spend more time with grown ups in the last 5 months than we did in the last 5 years.

They've been gone for a while and it's just catching up to me?
I know my wife has serious separation anxiety right now, but I must have compartmentalized it and it's now manifesting itself.
Interesting.

I understand your feeling. We get to a point in our lives where we ask ourselves, " is this all there is"? I'm at that point. Recovering from a surgery that, if the lab reports are right, part of the need for the surgery is the exposure from 20+ years on the job. Sometimes the thing that makes your living is the thing that can kill you. If this is my case, I'm changing career paths. No damn job is worth dying over.

Buy a car and restore it. You have all winter to get it done.

I sold my Vette. I'm done with cars.
My right knee is shot. That's probably a big reason why I'm miserable lately.
I sold my sled when I was 44. I hate the cold now.
I used to like it, but the older I get, the more I hate it.

Strengthen the muscles around it and it will make it feel better. I know it hurts but it's well worth the initial discomfort.

Both my knees have seen better days ( right one scoped, left one reconstructed ) but it's the cards you've been dealt. Deal with it

with hating the snow after selling the sled. Took the fun right out of winter

Clean them gats. Load up a batch and head to the range... I always find some torque and recoil cleanses the soul. Introduce the Mrs. to shooting if she does not enjoy it already. Try building (or rebuilding) a weapon from scratch... there is something even more satisfying punching bullseyes with a piece YOU built.

Get a couple books and try refinishing the stock on your deer rifle, or reblueing that ugly .22 we all have stuck in the back of the safe. Build some custom grips for your favorite pistola. Do a "drop in" trigger job on your carry piece.

If I live long enough to "retire" I hope to become a gunsmith. The profession requires little in the way of strength stamina or flexibility, and is challenging mentally. And I do love guns.
