Holy shit, impressive doesn't describe it. Now the big question, will Chevy answer back with a hopped up ZL1 and ZR1?

The problem is... no matter how much power you put to it, it's a 3900 pound, nose heavy sled.
Straight line = Turning and stopping = I took a couple of laps in the passenger seat of a 2012 GT500 at VIR. It was flat out terrifying. |

Bryan, but it looks like it will beat the ZL1 Camaro its main competition. But whatever, I love horsepower wars, let's hope this war can last a little longer

I love this trend of making hp on our modern cars. They are doing it so that the green weenies can't piss n moan like they did back in the 70's when they started pulling back power to save gas. Now, when you want to put your foot into it you can.

It is definitely impressive. I'd like to see Chevrolet and even Dodge step up to meet the challenge. There is no such thing as too much horsepower. |

I would MUCH rather get a 450hp C7 than that $70k Mustang. I find my regular GT at 412 hp is kind of fun with a little lower handling limits. It is not over done, goes where you point it, and gives a good enough feedback of when it is about to lose adhesion- basically it is a balanced car and on cheap tires.
Like I probably already said- I can't personally find a reason to spend more than $30k on an all steel pony car, but I believe the C7 will be able to out-lap the ZL1 and Boss mustangs on most tracks. |

I'd have to go with the GT40. Both are cool but the GT40 is incredible!!!

I would truly like to see some weight reduction programs in the ZL1 and Ford. Is safety requirements really that heavy?
HP wars are cool. I probably takes 100hp to turn that supercharger. |

My last couple of awd turbo ricers used aluminum fenders, hood, suspension parts, and even my last evo had special technology to bond an aluminum roof to a steel frame to lower the weight and CG. As we all know vettes are plastic- even the springs. lots of aluminum- especially the better models with the aluminum frame etc... That is why I kind of turn my nose up at a $42k Boss 302...it's still just a low tech all steel pig heavy muscle car. A well tuned one, but too heavy. That's why I still have interest in the C7 (despite the govt motors issue). The evos and wrx's are common platforms with the base economy cars they share parts with (just like the mustang), but in reality, there are very few common parts- they really made an effort to make those models more special. |

I just find it amazing that you can get that kind of HP today and still have a car that is well mannered enough to drive daily, take on long trips, and get decent mileage with the A/C blasting. 600 + HP was certainly possible in the 60's, but it would have been miserable to drive around town. |

I was fortunate while working for MAC Tools to have Shelby American in Las Vegas as an account and visited the shop many times. Not what you would expect, it was a massive warehouse looking building in a warehouse complex that had maybe 30 bays set up. Each bay had a car being built, the techs had a build list and they would do the car from start to finish. On one side were trailers of new Mustangs and on the other was the carriers picking up the Shelbys, it was really cool.

Personally I like the Mustang. But I would never have one because everyone has one. I know this is a different animal but to most people it's a Mustang.
