My Uncle was on Omaha beach. If I got him and Dad a few drinks then hid they would start talking among themselves about the S**t they did and saw.

Let's just say I am very happy never to have gone through any of that.

My uncle (my dad's older brother) led a rifle platoon onto Utah Beach. He was wounded and spent the rest of the war in Patton's Third Army...retired disabled with a 40% disability.

I bought an M1 Garand for him as a commemorative a few years ago and got it back when he passed away in '08 at the age of 98. I'm gonna clean it again today and, maybe take it to the range this afternoon.

RIP, Samuel Cohen, Maj, USAR(ret)...you earned it.

He had some good stories to tell. My uncle lied about his age (16) to join the Army during WW II. He got wounded at Normandy beach, got separated from his unit, and was kept hidden from the Germans by a French underground resistance family for about two months until he could get reunited with his unit.
