Default Computer Geeks step inside

Need to copy an Intel 8051 microcontroller. I have a known good to copy.
Plan on using pickit 3 unless you know of something better.
Any software you recommend?

Used to have a guy but he moved damnit.

It's for a circa 1986 system that has long been obsolete and parts are not to be found.

Thanks in advance and here's the required eye candy.

Might want to change the title to 'REALLY OLD Computer Geeks step inside'.

Before my IT time started.

There are modern derivatives, use one of them.

I have ordered replacement chips.. They have to be copied from a good chip.
It's not a plug n play or replace with something newer senario.

I go back to the 8088 days - what in the world are you doing ? Resurrecting an old system could only be justified IMO, if your 10 million dollar Bitcoin wallet key was trapped on it Not likely.

Breadboarded one of those in college into an elevator control/logic circuit. I think probably the word "software" wasn't created yet. There weren't programs for personal computers to buy in stores, had to write your own.

They were used in embedded systems, so I suspect he's trying to resurrect an old machine that's still being used.

OP - sorry, I don't know much about them and can't be of much help, but I'd like to see the project if you're able to share. Understood if you can't.

Correct it's an ancient system still being used I have a a ton of hours in getting working again(and way too much money) and zero replacement parts can be found without buying the whole system.
I'll post up what I can when chips arrive.

1980 called - they want their microcontroller back.

Obsolescence is a bitch.

Best option: Port the code to run natively on a modern micro.
Second best option: Rehost the code on a modern micro with an 8051 emulator.

Maybe, but if its in assembly language and not Fortran or the like that would not be trivial...

If it's an important device it's worth the effort.

Chips are still available from that era and I have to pull off the good chip anyways thus why i wasn't looking for a newer alternative.. Yet. This'll be plan B.
Plus if I'm able to do it I may be able to help others out that have same setup.
