Yes ideed. My 289 has the same thing. Sadly my original bi-metal coil choke spring was flaking apart and the aftermarket ones I've tried are junk so I have not been able to get the two stage fast idle to work exactly right no matter how I adjust it. The junk aftermarket coil just does not move enough.

Got it fired up today!

Had a few loose vacuum lines but it ran well. I took a risk and reinstalled the radiator without having it tested......, mistake.....pin hole in the top tank. I'll drain the coolant and drop it off.

Still have to go through the brake system.

Big day!

Couple engine bay shots. Yes, I wanted it to look "untouched".

Another huge step for mankind!

The old pickup moved on its own! I sprayed down all the brakes with CRC SP 350!

Calipers and drums broke free and the truck moved for the first time in decades! I’m going to go through the entire braking system, both front and rear. As it’s said, make it stop then make it go…. We’ll….I went reverse…..

Filled the gas tank for its first drink in years too. The sender works perfectly same with the gauge.

Now we’re close!

Zeeks old gasser is still up on jacks!

It's been a LONG time since I saw one of those FM adapters for the AM radio.

Me too. Doesn't make him any less of an asshole, though.

Back in the day, the 300 6 was actually more sought after for the guys who wanted a work truck because it had more low end grunt than the small v8.

I resemble that remark, working hard as I do, to be the biggest asshole here.

The I6 was the perfect engine because of it's inherent primary and secondary balance. I could only be made better by weaving two together to make a V12.

The V8 has always been a compromise. But guys had to have them because they were available in larger displacements. I6's were scrapped and junk V8s dropped in. Or an I6 vehicle "didn't deserve" being cared for or restored. Thus their relative rarity today. DR's truck likely worth more with it's original I6 than with the FE he has on the shelf.

The I6 is making a comeback now that we have twin variable cam timing and turbocharging as well-established technology. ChryCo's V8 Hemi will soon be history and the Hurricane I6 DOHC will take over.

Brakes……You know how you have just that tiny bit of brake at the bottom of the pedal? That’s all I got….

Filled the MC and it bubbled not like I’ve ever seen…I suppose I’m in for a top to bottom rebuild. Not really surprised though, it sat for decades. It least I was able to free up the wheels.

Man it’s been a long time since I replaced wheel cylinders and shoes.

Easiest thing in the world. I got everything I needed from Rock Auto for my '61 'vette for about $200 when I redid the entire brake system 8 years ago after I bought it. It had been sitting 25+ years. You likely won't even have to touch the steel lines due to the condition of the truck. Don't make the dumb ass mistake so many suckers to and 'upgrade' to stainless steel brake lines. Don't do it. Unless you like crying and having leaking brakes with no advantage over mild steel in a car you won't be driving on salt.
