Default Went to a great estate sale

They just wanted to get rid of everything. Tools, knick knacks, etc..everything $1.00. I missed out on some Craftsman tools, but was shocked to find this among some car parts! I don't know if people just overlooked it (I was very late getting there, very near closing time in the afternoon) or if they just thought it was a box of shells. Checked evilbay and one sold just like it for $126.00.

I bought some other items - tools, toys, and another cool old lawn mower for only $2.00.

Went back on Sat. and everything was 50 cents! Half off and bought a few more items. I should have just dumped everything in a box and sorted it all out at home for those prices.

back in May, before Dad passed away, we got to visit and he and I had many talks. one thing he was against was an estate sale of his stuff. he knew you'd only get pennies on the dollar, and you'd have all sorts of strangers going thru your stuffs.

so noted.

a few weeks later, he passed away peacefully, and we went back up to help get the house ready for sale and clear things out. us kids took some stuff, other got left with the house (mostly furnished when we sold it, buyers were good with that), and a lot of stuff either got donated to local places (some was sold to an antique shop, other was donated to the senior center store), or just got pitched in the trash. a lot of trash runs.

i look around our house, and our guesthouse, and my shop....someone, someday, is going to have a lot of work to do.

I've been going to them since a teenager and it even struck me back then with sadness the only reason I'm there is the previous owner is no longer with us. It still saddens me every time I go to one. You can see their life in front of you. Their interest, hobbies, career, family, travels, etc...everything exhibited with the trinkets they left behind.

I have no family to leave anything to. I've thought of just donating it all to some museums that I have enjoyed visiting over the years. They can display or sell it to keep the lights on.

we have no kids, and my sisters are only a few years younger than me, also with no kids. we are the end of the line.

some day, i'll revise our wills. somebody is going to get some money, somebody is going to get a few guns, and somebody is going to get paid for doing a lot of work.

Join the club, bubba, wife's mom and aunt spent a total of about ten years here.....both gone now.....and so wife finally got the guts/nerve to go through the excessive amounts of boxes of crap left over from their homes, SO the sorting began, and many trips to Goodwill/etc, as well as to the driveway with 3 large cans and many 20 gal trash bags....the pickup crew growing to hate us for sure....and due to the extra load on her time for my flower gal, we have let the gardens/bushes go to the point of stoooooopidity......waiting for cooler/DRIER weather soon enuff, and we get to wacking, we did a little bit in a small area yielding two large piles and one can packed full of smaller shit.....IF/when I get the Vette running, hopefully I can somehow manage to get room in the garage, to be able to tackle the rest of the junk out in the storage sheds/workshop?'....and drag it all out to the curb.....getting nutz out there.....and it's all MY fault now, wife dun cleaned out her stacks of crap last week/weekend.....shit, my toolbox and cart it sets on are one pile of crap exceeding 600 lbs in weight, for sure.....

sometimes, when i'm at the range, some guy will offer that he wished he had some gun he doesn't presently have.

so i helpfully offer, well, go buy it.

"but it costs $xxx"

"yeah, so, no point in dying rich, i've already tried it. didn't like it"

at this point, they normally walk away, and i can get back to loading my magazines.

Plastic hulls were introduced in 1960 but you could still buy paper shells through most of the 60's.
