I lost my last 2 cats to kidney failure. I sometimes wonder if there's something lacking in the commercial cat foods that most of us feed to them. Ir maybe some Chinese ingreduients?

When they stop eating the end is nigh.

My sincere condolences OP - we said goodbye to our little Smokie earlier this month. Just got the ashes back today.

Crappy cat food will most certainly cause a cat’s early demise. Do research online for the best food for cats, and most sources will recommend against dry food, especially crappy dry food. One of my cats developed diabetes from eating IAMs dry food. I thought that would be the end of him, but after going on insulin and switching to high protein, low carb canned food, his diabetes went into total remission, and he is no longer insulin dependent. He’s now 14 years old and is healthy. Most cats I have had have lived to be around 20 years old.

I have this stuff that you put a couple drops on your cheeks to help with your sinuses. It's really strong smelling that really opens you up. All the cats don't want anything to do with it. Samantha acts like she cannot smell it. That would explain her not eating. She can't smell food.

Not sure where exactly you are in Indiana but if it comes down to it and you are close, I'm across the border near Cincinnati and we have some really great vets. I've never had to wait more than a day. Same day for emergency events.

Seeing as she is Kerry's cat, he needs to take care of her.

When I had Covid, my oldest cat started getting sniffles and was sneezing. Luckily, it only lasted a few days and then he was fine. I’ve heard of Covid being passed to pets, but generally their symptoms aren’t severe.

Samantha has started sneezing today. Maybe her sinuses are getting cleared out so she can smell.

With Covid, your sinuses can be clear, but you still can’t smell.... The mechanism of Covid directly affects your olfactory senses. If your cat doesn’t eat soon, you need a vet to administer a feeding tube or other means of nutrition. Cats can become severely ill from not eating.

You are definitely on the right track... My doggo got what is without a doubt pesticide poisoning from commercial food couple years ago(maybe a year can't remember now). About killed his kidneys. He was 9 out of 10 points for poisoning. I started making his food and he's been great since. Took a few days for him to recover (more like a week to 10 days). Not an uncommon complaint about commercial foods(kidney issues and death) if you look around.
He's overly sensitive about pesticides as a flea and tick spot treatment was brutal on his stomach also, 3 days intense squirts until i scrubbed him 3 times. Went away the next day. Normally his stomach runs like a german train.. Always on schedule and only off once a year.
I keep him away from the yard when i spray for bugs also(always have). @dvarapala thought maybe you'd want to read this

There was a big scandal a few years ago where some Chinese pet food that had been contaminated with melamine. You'd think a big name pet food producer like Iams would not cheap out on their ingredients, but I guess you never know for sure...

That definitely sounds like a lack of fluids. Has she been off her water as well as food?
