Default Here's a fun "what if" for new Vette buyers...

So most of you probably have no idea that GM has a MASSIVE shipping problem right now with their vehicles.

For example, I have a 2020 GMC Denali 2500 that was built 6/19 that is still in the initial phase of shipping. Meaning it hasn't even been put in line to ship, and trucks built weeks later are here. We had a Colorado that was built in March show up in July.

This is exactly why when we take the C8 deposits, we tell people they are put in the order banks in order of the deposit, but can't promise order of delivery.

How many people are going to pay all this extra to be the "first one" in their town, only to have GM shipping F it all up?

Well all the more reasons for dealerships not to charge a market adjustment.

You can choose museum delivery for your new Vette, why not make factory pickup an option for new vehicle buyers? Seems like the cost of delivery factored in the price of vehicles would more than pay for an on site pickup program and some kind of associated factory tour, regardless of which vehicle you buy. I bet a fair number of people would make a new car purchase pickup a mini vacation of sorts.

Edit: If I was plunking out a premium for a c-8, I'd have no problem picking up my new ride from Bowling Green.

GM is blaming the trucking company.

They are offering us an incentive to pick up vehicles ourselves...$100.

If you did that, would the destination fee still be on the sticker?

Or would the destination cost would remain the same as you are incurring the cost now?

Even though a factory pickup only entails moving the car from the factory to the museum just across the street, you still get hit for destination charges. Doesn't matter whether the car was moved a quarter mile, or 4000 miles. The destination charge is the same and is not included in the MSRP. Everyone buying a new car has to pay the destination charge. Dumb, but fair law if you ask me...

Every new car or truck I've purchased had the destination charge listed as a line item on the Monroney, and was included in the final MSRP.

And that price is the same for everyone, it’s normalized so everyone feels the same pain

Destination charges are negotiated by the unions, so yes, they stay.

I guess what I was inartfully trying to say was, the costs of, say, having administration and staff to deliver Silverados, or Cruzes, to buyers in the factory parking lot would be offset by the savings realized by not having to ship the cars being delivered on site.

If logistics, getting vehicles to dealerships is a problem, this might be one way to lessen the logjam. I'm just thinking it would be easier to arrange shipping for 95 cars than it would be to arrange shipping for 100 cars.

GM, where they can't even figure out a vehicle delivery spreadsheet. But Johnny, it's so much more complicated. Newsflash, if your vehicle delivery schedule has become overly complicated, how am I to trust you to make sure my airbag works as expected during an accident.

What's next, the fuel gauge is a suggestion and you best figure out your mileage left each time you turn the key.

GM, where they can make an exciting new car but can't figure out when it'll get to you.

I believe them about trucking. I see hiring signs everywhere for trucking companies. If you have a CDL, you can find a job.

Jeep had the same issue with the Gladiator. Folks paid a premium for the Launch Edition and it took longer for those to arrive than the standard models.

I could have bought a Gladiator Launch edition, but $62 large was a bit much.
