No it will just clean it self. I have mine set up so I can pull a segment out from the inside. Then I run my brush up from the inside. Just poke the rod through a bag taped to the pipe to catch the shit and give it hell.

That is calcium and magnesium build up. Anode rod will do nothing for that. The reason no one buys them is most do not know about them. For 20 bucks every 3 years for my tanks have lasted over 30 years and still going.

First, the aluminum rods are like 75.00.

Dude said they sold more rods just after a Bob Vila show, years ago....and they remedy the sulfur rotten egg smell if present.

I'll check them in a year, put it on your calendar for me!
