The only time someone can see your real IP when you're using a VPN is either because the VPN sucks and leaks personal info, the VPN provider gave up the goods to the Gov. or got hacked, or it somehow disconnected and reconnected like it had a hiccup.

This is why when using a VPN it's important to bind it to whatever program(s) you are using so if for some reason the VPN errors out or disconnects it kills ( kill switch) the internet connection or the program that is binded to it.

A good VPN provider does not keep or accept personal information so it's useless for people like the FBI or other Gov officials to collect data from the VPN provider if asked to do so.

My VPN allows me to be anywhere in the world. If someone has software that can state I am elsewhere, then my VPN has failed me.

Let's be realistic. VPN services do absolutely nothing for keeping you anonymous from 5/9/14 Eye governments. About the only thing it may do is keep your employer from knowing what you're looking at while at work.

This is what's amusing to me. If you are doing stuff on the web that is contrary to their wishes, they already have the receipts. Even the terrorists learned to mistrust anything but P2P

We are all compromised . Nothing is secure or encrypted enough. The agencies that monitor us have all the encryption software.
Even if you have no phone, internet etc. Once you start talking someone is listening. Or watching via cameras.. Even if you buy everything in cash, they know where you are when you buy it.

Most VPNs now have a kill switch and the better versions let you select from several protocols and connect to different servers nationwide/globally and there are encryption algorithms the gov't doesn't have.

Apple has refused to disclose theirs several times and woldn't create a "backdoor" for the gov't. And a VPN is a network tunnel; it doesn't guarantee security once your data arrives at a remote location - like an email server (ask Hillary).

Some VPNs "leak info" and others have flaws that allow triangulation to determine a user's approximate location - so choose carefully.

Wish I had taken the path of computers when I was offered programming classes in high school in the eighties. Then in the service when IT positions opened up.I wish I had taken that path for that was offered to me but I saw no need for it.
Now I am looking into shifting careers towards cyber security.
I use NordVPN and protonmail.
