Yeah, but look at the neighborhood and the fact that you have to drive to work everyday.

Not sure I understand. I live in a pretty nice neighborhood and work for a great company. I have no desire to work from home.

Whatever range the factory claims, divide by 2 since the battery will age. Got hills, mountains? Deduct more. Drive during cold weather and want heat in the cabin? Divide by 2 again.

Then you're back to workin' at home because you don't have enough charge to back out of the driveway.

The hyperbole is strong enough to be considered fiction here.

Looks like wall-to-wall houses to me. Some people like to live like that, I guess. As I recall, slave quarters were always in neat rows as well back on the plantations.

Not where I live anymore, just a good pic of my car. I now have a half acre in a gated community.

Wow! Half an acre. If your property were square, each side would measure a whopping 147 feet. Not sure I could handle being all alone in such a vast wilderness such as that. Are there bears? Do you have a SAT phone for emergencies?

BTDT and we've built and lived in several of the best subdivisions/communities in the area.
Currently on 1/2 acre in Mayberry while I build our rural home on 33 acres (wish I had 300 acres).
Can't wait and I will never again live in a subdivision.

Tell us you don’t know anything about Florida city living without saying it out loud…

My subdivision is very quiet and stable averaging about or less than 1 sale per year. We have been looking at a 10 acre plot to build a family compound, but I don’t hate neighbors when they are good. Moving out of the city is also way less convenient. It’s nice for my kids to have neighborhood friends.

Oh, it isn't just Florida city living. We have the same thing up here in Northern Virginia. McMansions on 1/2 acre postage stamp lawns, all in neat rows, behind fences with gates. Owned one up by Dulles Airport back in the day. Hated every day of it. Once accidentally drove all the way into work before the sun came up without turning my headlights on. Since it never really gets dark up there, I didn't know my headlights weren't on until I went to turn them off. Those gated communities are giving the same illusion of "safety" as the animals in the zoo have. I figure it was a UN requirement because it will make it extremely easy to round up all the citizens when the time comes.

PHEV's are great. Only down side really is the maintenance on the gas engine. Other than that, they are a solid choice, especially for people whose daily usage is within the EV range of the particular vehicle. So, you get the best of both worlds. EV only for local driving and gas engine for road trips.

I had my own issues with the HOA back in the day. Lovely people. I built a privacy fence around my back yard. They came out and measured and told me in a letter that parts of my fence were too tall and would have to be torn down and rebuilt. I took a day and went to every HOA board member's house and measured their fences and took photos. I sent them the stack of photos, each clearly identifying their homes and where their fences were out of compliance. I told them that I would correct mine when they corrected theirs. They dropped the issue.

I also noticed that one of the homes had a BMW and a Mercedes with Florida tags in the driveway. That home belonged to the head of the HOA. We have onerous annual personal property taxes here in Virginia, so a lot of people try to maintain out-of-state tags to avoid paying these taxes. Well, there is a phone number that one can call to report your neighbors who are doing this. The police will drive by every evening and make a note of the vehicles. If they are there for 4 days a week, they get ticketed and fined. I called that phone number five times and reported them. About a month later, both vehicles had Virginia tags on them. I'm betting they had to pay the back taxes as well.

Poorly run HOA in this little Mayberry neighborhood we live in. Corrupt too and I have called them out on it a couple of times. They don’t GAF.

And as you noted, the board members are the worse culprits. One guy (a douche bag cop) got his wife on the board just to grandfather in a non compliance pole barn he built in his back yard. They even went as far as change the rule after the fact.

Another board member (ironically another cop) built an 8’ high wood privacy fence where the covenants clearly state 6’ max height. The fence also doesn’t meet the setback requirement. I pointed this out to the president (before the fence was completed because I could see what was being built) he said I was wrong and let’s wait and see the final product. Of course I was correct and I was then told it would be a financial hardship to make them redo the fencing.

When I contacted the president again he went dark. A couple of months later I got a letter saying that the HOA was now run by a 3rd party agency.
What a joke.

Funny but other than the initial HOA fee collected at closing, we have never received or paid any fees for two years. One neighbor told me it’s all done through facebook. I don’t do facebook.
Idiots.

Not sure why you would post that. His farm/ranch is awesome. He and his wife have done a magnificent job developing it out and it appears to be maintained impeccably.

But does that give him the right to dump on others choices? I have hundreds and don't do that.

I'd love to have hundreds of acres. And I'd leave most of it woods.
The man we purchased our little 33 acres from owns about another 100 acres behind and to the east of me, and another 40 across the street. If I could buy it all I would. But it is very expensive in this area.
