National Bureau of Standards swag
Paging Tom Armstrong.
Before it was NIST, it was NBS. In 1976 they had an open house and passed out some swag. My Dad ended up with this little treasure. It’s aluminum. |

Cool pieces. I remember all the bicentenial logo themed stuff. I'm surprised I haven't come across any of it so far going through Mom and Dad's house so far. Surely they would have kept some of it for memorabilia... they kept everything else.

That’s pretty cool. Oh, because I know you know DAB, NIST is selling our NIKE site. Should bring between $5-15M.

Possibly the worst "conversion" I ever went through at our company was going from almost none, to a verifiable and validated metrology program. We had thousands of measuring instruments that needed both a written process and record keeping. Took two years and countless hours to get back to just being able to keep a straight face.

Right before I retired in May 2020, my last project was getting ALL of our calibration procedures updated to the latest template, and having verbiage about TIME measurements. This project took me almost a year to complete. Again, due to an auditor not happy with our procedures. Hell, even the Maintenance and Equipment departments had to revamp their procedures just for this auditor. I'm so happy I don't have to deal with that crap anymore. |

76 was a good year for me. I graduated high school.
