Default So this happened

I had to get blood drawn for the eleventy billionth time and as the tech was getting the stuff ready we talked small talk. She recognized the tests and mentioned her son had Crohn’s Disease.

I said “that’s what I have. How old is your son?”

She said he is no longer living. He was 35 when he passed. He was diagnosed at 17. For some reason she decided to tell me the most heartbreaking story as if she was compelled to do so.

The pain in her eyes was palpable. She took a minute and prayed for me and told me God understands and has a plan for me. She said her son told her it was time for him to go. He was utterly beaten by the disease.

I gave her a hug. She held on for just a couple minutes and we both were silent. I felt like we both knew what is eventually coming for me in that moment. It was profound. I thought about how I would manage if I lost my son.

Her strength and faith was amazing.

I never saw her before at this lab. She was a heavy set black woman probably in her fifties. I didn’t catch her name.

I went back the next day to drop off a small card. They said they didn’t know of anyone who fit her description being employed by the lab.

I have told no one. Not even the wife.

Not kidding. I can’t stop thinking about her pain and what her son went through.

Ignoring for a moment the chills your story gave me, plus I hate to rain on the parade in any way and no offense intended but:

Who did they list as the tech on the blood draw report? Can that person be located and identified? There has to be a paper trail that leads to somebody. Are you sure you really went to get the blood draw and it really happened? And have you talked to Rod Serling about doing a new Twilight Zone episode?

You can have them check the records of your blood draw if you want. But the important thing is the gift that you got. Sounds to me like you had an experience that came when you needed it. That was a message you should take comfort from. These things happen, can’t be argued or explained away. I have had too many of them myself to discount them.
You have someone looking out for you.

OP there are certain things that just cannot be explained. Do not try to figure this out, you got a gift.

Patients don’t see that report. Of course I’m sure I went and got blood work done are you serious?

I could look her up but that’s not even important.

What struck me was that this person visibly understood what it’s like to fight this disease, understood that at some point it’s OK to give up and the biggest miracle is someone actually showed they care.

How rare is that in the medical world of today?

Pardon me. I've obviously offended you.

When I've experienced possibly supernatural phenomena I usually try to dig into it. (Thus far with no particular revelatory results, I might add.) My fascination with such things overcame my better judgement.

Please accept my apologies.

Pffft, I’m not that easy to insult. No insult taken.

I’d say it’s more likely the dipshit I asked doesn’t know WTF she is talking about. I go there about every two weeks. We shall see.

So you won't mind if I irreverently type "Cool story, bro" ?

Strange that someone who apparently doesn't work there got all the way into the room with you to prepare to draw blood. That is some Twilight Zone stuff.

I have an imaging appointment Friday for my kidney stones. I'm going to ask to see the technicians badge before they start. LoL

It’s like totally “ One Step Beyond “. grade unsettling. But, however it shakes out, it’s still a gift to you at the time you need it.
