Default Ford dealership advised us that we could replace the battery...for only $14,000

Florida family drives into electric car problem: a replacement battery costs more than vehicle itself

https://www.foxbusiness.com/technolo...s-more-vehicle

A family in Florida drove into a major problem after buying a used electric vehicle: the replacement battery for their dead car wound up costing more than the used car was purchased for.

Avery Siwinski is a 17-year-old whose parents spent $11,000 on a used Ford Focus Electric car, which is a 2014 model and had about 60,000 miles when it was bought, according to KVUE.

The teenager had the car for six months before it began giving her issues and the dashboard was flashing symbols.

"It was fine at first," Siwinski said. "I loved it so much. It was small and quiet and cute. And all the sudden it stopped working."

She told the news outlet that the car stopped running after taking it to a repair shop, and the family eventually found out that the car's battery would need to be replaced.

The problem? A battery for the electric car costs $14,000, according to the news outlet.

The Ford dealership had advised us that we could replace the battery," said her grandfather, Ray Siwinski. "It would only cost $14,000."

However, the family found out that there weren't any batteries of that type available anymore because the Ford model is discontinued.

"Then we found out the batteries aren't even available," Siwinski said. "So it didn't matter. They could cost twice as much and we still couldn't get it."

I've got ICE engines older than that and they still run perfect. Hmmm......

Another obvious flaw for electric vehicles that the greenies want to ignore. And...what to do with the dead batteries?

Simple fix. Just buy another electric Ford Focus for $11,000 and swap out the battery. Could save $3,000 over a new battery.

IF they just quit making a big deal outta the bicycling of the battinator, and break it down to it's component parts like a junk CAR.....it's simple, really....

all it is....two different metallic type conductors, and some acid related chemical like a car battery for over 60 years, or a flashlight battery, or a ni-cad rechargable.....

woopie doo.......recycling any battinator just means someone needs get off their ass and DO IT, just like those silly windmill blades they all upset over, it's metal just DO IT!!!

if only the industry would standardize on a battery, so they are all interchangeable.

It'll be 5 to 10 years before enough batteries aftet they ramp up production greatly before batteries that have been refurbished are available and could possibly lower their costs. Until then you're driving a disposable car...

Dump them on the sides of the road, next to the piles of old tires, used diapers, and the discarded sofas? I mean, that is what would happen in Houston.

This is only the tip of the EV iceberg. These so called "green" cars are worse than ICE. The environmental disaster that is about to happen when all these toxic batteries are disposed of because they are dead is going to be mind blowing.
I'll stay with my ICE until the day I die.

The greenie-weenies are so ****ing stupid:

GMS Hummer EV carbon dioxide emissions more than ICE vehicle

I can't believe Americans have become so stupid.........I take that back, 99% were indoctrinated in the federal school system.

I did a study years ago trying to show the environmental impact was far greater with a battery car than an ICE car..
Liberals wanted nothing to do with it. They think batteries are just made, and are clean, really.
Oh well, until batteries are clean and safe energy, I wont be buying. Especially after seeing a mini submarine blow up. Same batteries as a Prius. Nope, not this guy

Libs claim to be smarter and better educated than conservatives, so let's give them the benefit of doubt and assume that to be true. This then, points to a hidden agenda.
