Default WWVBD?

What would the Vette Barn do?

I have a 21 year old GE builder grade gas stove. Recently, the clock and timer have stopped keeping time correctly. I've cut the power and turned it back on to see if it could be 'reset,' but no joy.

The part I need is no longer made. Other than this, the stove works fine. The only thing I've ever had to replace previously was the thermocouple for the oven. Easy fix.

So, should I just live with it and occasionally search for a used part?

Just live with it?

Spring for a new stove altogether?

Spring for a slightly used stove?

Go.

I vote live with it unless you want to upgrade to a convection oven or something worth upgrading for.

I'd like to help you look.
Could you post the model and serial number?
I have found parts for old machines from places like this.
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/se...e-cooktop-oven

There is even a site that has DIY videos, and I'm looking for that now.

We have a gas stove/oven too. Clock works just fine, but 9 times out of 10 the family uses the timer on the microwave just above it. Not sure why, but if the stove works well, no way would I replace it.

Turn the gas on, open the door, wait two hours, light a match.

Problem solved

Kinda weird Bill Daniels...

You can tell everyone how to live their lives politically, but you can't make a simple decision like this?

Kinda weird.....

Go.
The Westinghouse gas range unit we got thru the builder when our house was built in '83, worked well until the time we trashed it last year. Never a single problem, everything worked.
The Harvest yellow color just did not look good anymore.
Frigidaire Gallery SS fridge/oven/microwave now, and the quality is quite noticeable. So far, it has performed well, but I'm not the keenest on all of the electronic doo-dads controlling was was previously manual valves and analog clocks. My daughter's range's control panel crapped out 2 years into use.

Wish I could've re-skinned the old unit.

Matching OTR microwave is scarring me with all it's buzzing, snapping noises.
Tossed a perfectly good 10 y/o GE unit just so the kitchen would look "pretty".
And the new refrigerator is really noisey. Ice cube maker sounds like it's crushing full-size pick-up trucks.
Old GE Fridge was ~ 12 years old, also in good working order.

He likely can get the board repaired. It could be that some discrete components have failed and those can be replaced.

Call a competent electronics repair person. The guy I brought a bunch of old stereo projects to repair always had several appliance controller cards in his laundry list of things to repair.

Here's the thing....I have no sentimental attachment to the stove. It's an appliance, and it's not worth dropping a couple hundred on a stove that's probably not worth $ 100, if Craigslist is any indication.

I saw a two year old Whirlpool stove with an older over the counter microwave for $ 225, for example. I thought about buying it. My housekeeper doesn't clean the inside of the oven, so just starting out with a clean oven would almost have been worth it.

Last year, I had a similar problem with my above the range microwave.....the keypad was failing, and no new part was available. I found a used part for $ 75, but ended up buying a year old microwave that was better optioned than the one I started with for $ 45, but had to use wall anchors for the new mounting hardware, which I could have avoided if I had just replaced the keypad.

Update:

I tried unplugging the stove for a half hour, then plugging it in again and setting the clock. 30 minutes later, it's keeping time with the microwave clock. When I cut the power the first time, I probably had it off for less than a minute.

I'll have to monitor the situation carefully.
