You still haven't explained why the owner objects to you feeding her.

Or why he feels the need to feed it.

We have been feeding odd cats around here for long time, years.....we are down to just one cat who not interested in the front yard anymore....age 14 and acting like it.......

and so Leona started showing up early last year.....and she was aggressive in chasing off some of the other cats.....even larger than she is.....but she is very friendly to me, neighbor guy, and my wife.......kitty even jumped into my lap outside and I rubbed some ears......

the owner came around and was as forceful as he could be to wife and I about not feeding her.....as if she was the only cat on the street.....

and the other day he came around again......wife told him to go to hell, as she was used to feeding cats for some 60 years and is NOT GOING TO CHANGE.....so if he don't want her here......best lock your doors....but he has small kids so you know how THAT works.....

Here's the thing.....if your cat is outside, trespassing on your neighbor's property, that's really on you, the cat owner. The neighbor should just be happy that Gene's family are good people and offer kibble and scritches to wandering kittahs. If there was some kind of legitimate dietary concern, like the cat had to be on a special diet for medical reasons, I could see that, but still, I'd ask nicely. After all, the cat is a guest on Gene's property. There are plenty of people who don't like stray animals on their property.

To the larger point, I just don't get why you'd want to get in a pissing contest with your neighbors, especially if you're doing something wrong. It's the old principle....if you're throwing a party, ALWAYS invite the neighbors. Even if they don't go, they'll feel bad about complaining about a party that they themselves were invited to.

The party point is right on Bill........this block and entire burb, I suspect, is known for parties all over various houses, some years ago......every decent weekend, another BBQ and shared foods back and forth.....went on for some 20 years, until one divorce, and two deaths/home sales slowed down the pace a good bit recently.....but in general, we all still friendly even with the newbies.....but the vast majority of the guys/gals are late 60's through 70's.....

If your cat is on a special diet, keep your cat in your damn house! If your cat is allowed to go outside, it is going to eat whatever it finds - mice, birds, kibble, etc. The neighbor should be thankful that no one has tried to kidnap the cat, or harm the cat.
