I'm the opposite, I'll probably never own a 9mm. The .40 does everything the 9 mm does but better. That snappy recoil doesn't bother me. Maybe cause I have XXL sized hands it might be easier to control.

I have a .45 S&W 4566 TSW that fit's my hand well and feels really good and balanced. I always feel that I shoot better with it. But the numbers don't lie, I always shoot tighter groups with my Glock 23 which always surprises me.

I like the .40, the 9mm has always seemed a bit anemic to me.

Why do you want a compact for a home defense firearm as opposed to a full size?
I'm not understanding that.
Personally, I want a meaty handle for home defense, especially because concealment is not an issue.
Easier to grab and more accurate to shoot, easier.
I have all 9 mm' s but that's just me.
Less recoil and still 15 tries to hit em.

picked up a pistol today at the shop. won on Gunbroker.com last week. their case was about empty, just a few Kimber 9mm, one Ruger, and a few CZ models. absolutely no 9mm ammo of any kind. they did say that they had sold several guns that had been in the case a long, long time (not popular models). and that several buyers over the last few weeks inquired which pistols they had ammo for, and then they bought that pistol and the matching ammo.

they even wanted to know if i'd sell them some of my ammo....no....i might need it for something.

just spotted this on gunbroker.com, 6 months ago, this ammo was easily obtained for less than $200/1000. now someone is going to pay 3 times that for plain old range ammo. i have some of this, it shoots well.

That was one of the handguns on my list. No one, and I mean NO gun shop in my area had one for me to check out.

Here was my list:

*S&W M&P 2.0
*Glock G19
*Glock G45
*Glock G48 slimline
*Walther PPQ M2
*Baretta 92x

the only ones I was able to hold were the S&W M&P 2.0, Walther PPQ, Glock G19. Both the G19 and Walther are doublestacks and that is one aspect I was wanting to get away from.

The G48 is also double stack, but done in a way to make the gun slimmer overall. No one had that model on hand

The S&W M&P 2.0 "shield" is a single stack; it fit my hand better and Yvonne was more comfortable with it.

The time to buy ammo is the same thing as the time to plant a tree - ten years ago. Buy it soon as you can, plant soon as you are able.

OK; just got order confirmation for a S&W M&P 9mm 2.0 EZ:

from Rual King. 10-14 days till ship; their RK Gun division is swamped.

# 12437 w/o safety.

One of the benefits for this pistol is that it is easy for people with weaker hands to manipulate the slide. In fact, many women love this model for that specific reason.

Good points. I'm a slab side person; probably why I'm not a big Glock fan. Going back to my XD-40, that thing is thin. May also be why it's a bit of a pain to shoot well. The PPQ is not thin, but fits well in my wife's hand. Gonna be hard at this time to really give you a solid recommendation, as I'm a huge fan of trying a firearm out before purchase. Let us know how it goes. Thinking about going to the range tomorrow to dust off the rust.

9mm. Better ammo more readily available.

I carry either an SR9c (option of 10 & 17 round mags) or an SR1911cmd in 9mm or .45. For a pocket pistol a Kahr CM9 or KelTec P3AT .380.

All loaded with Hornady Critical Duty or Critical Defense.
